By Diana Ross, E-RYT 500 Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga.

Relaxation and detoxification of your body with a therapeutic bath is a complementary therapy that anyone can perform in the comfort of their own home. If in a cancer related weakened state please have friend or family member close by during and after a therapeutic Pink Salt bath and dry brush body massage.

A detox bath is thought to assist your body in eliminating toxins as well as absorbing the minerals and nutrients that are in the water. Most of all, it’ll leave you feeling refreshed and awakened. Dry skin brushing increases circulation to skin, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes, which greatly aids the lymphatic drainage of the entire body. When the body rids itself of toxins, it is able to run more efficiently in all areas.

Relax & Detox Bath Instructions

  1. Schedule time for yourself
  2. Fill tub with hot water
  3. Add 4-6 ounces of “Pink Salt” aka Himalayan Salt
  4. Mix bath water gently with hand
  5. Enter bath and soak for at least 20 minute however 40 is recommended
  6. Be sure to drink plenty of water after a “Pink Salt” bath to rehydrate the healthy relaxed cells

After Bath Care
Be sure to stand up with care, baths can make person feel dizzy or lightheaded. Have a towel ready and use a dry brush to brush/rub the body down and help stimulate the lymphatic system.

Dry brushing stimulates the skin and circulates lymph fluid which is vital for overall health. The skin is the largest organ in the body and is responsible for a quarter of the body’s detoxification. The ability of the skin to excrete toxins is of paramount importance. Dry skin brushing helps to shed dead skin cells, which improves skin texture and cell renewal.

How To Use A Dry Brush For Breast Cancer & Lymphedema

  1. Dry Brush your entire body before you shower, preferably in the morning or before bed. This helps loosen and remove dead skin and uric acid crystals.
  2. Start at the soles of your feet doing circular movements, then brush upwards on your legs toward your heart. Use long, even strokes.
  3. Brush all the way up your legs, scooping forward from behind your hips to your tummy. If you have cellulite on your hips and thighs, concentrate their a little longer.
  4. Then begin circular movements over your tummy. Start with up on right and down on left, simulating the natural movement of the bowels.
  5. Be kind in the thin sensitive skin areas of inner arm, arm pits or tops of hands and not directly on breasts. Avoid brushing anywhere the skin is broken or where you have a rash, infection, cut or wound.
  6. When ready, start the shower with warm water and end briefly with cold. Let the cold water start at your legs then the heart is last. This hot/cold therapy further stimulates the lymphatic system which improves overall circulation.
  7. Dry off vigorously and massage pure plant oils into your skin or spray on Simply Lavender. You may want your skin to breathe for a while too. Enjoy this process of good health and detoxification.

Dry skin brushing increases circulation to skin, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes, which greatly aids the lymphatic drainage of the entire body. When the body rids itself of toxins, it is able to run more efficiently in all areas. Dry skin brushing stimulates the lymph canals to drain toxic mucoid matter into the colon, thereby purifying the entire system. This enables the lymph to perform its house-cleaning duties by keeping the blood and other vital tissues detoxified.

Avocado Toast

Avocado ToastRecipe By: Kelli Roberts, Vegan Chef and Certified Health & Nutritional Counselor
I love avocado toast. Really truly love it. Crunchy bread with soft and creamy avocado spread all over it ~ what could be better?
This is the best avocado toast I’ve ever had. It takes those amazing textures and adds the smoky spiciness of chipotle chili powder and a hint of coarse ground himalayan salt for the most amazing flavor combination. Add a few hemp seeds for fun (and some extra protein!) and you’re good to go….
You can also add a squeeze of lime juice to add a little tanginess to it.

The simple recipe:

  • Bread of choice (I used sprouted Ezekial bread here)
  • 1/2 perfectly ripe avocado (or a whole one!)
  • sprinkle of chipotle chili powder
  • sprinkle of coarse ground Himalayan salt
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
  • drizzle of lime juice (optional)

Spring Cleaning for the Liver

Spring Cleaning For The Liver

Spring Cleaning For The Liver – Lemons

 by Omnia Raza Mir Chishti

Spring is in full bloom here in the Pacific Northwest. Lilacs, wisteria, azaleas, all the blossoming trees, and tulips galore!  It’s a sight to behold.  The spring air is fresh, clear, and the sunshine is so welcomed.  Spring is a time of renewal, refreshing, and cleansing.  We are reminded of the time for “spring cleaning”, and a time to cleanse the body as well.  With just a bit of preparation and mindful intention, we can harness the power of renewal and rebirth, detoxifying our bodies and restoring optimal vitality, therefore greatly benefiting body, mind and spirit.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Spring is ruled by the wood element, which in turn regulates the liver and gall bladder.  A liver cleanse is then in order for the spring season.  With this, comes the need to support all the parts of the body, that work to eliminate and discharge toxins from the body.  Without support and cleansing these organs, we can create a toxic build-up leading to digestive distress, candida, congestion, and headaches.   Long-term, these toxic buildups can lead to more serious diseases.  It is firstly, important to prepare for the cleanse.  Gathering all the needed supplies, allowing time for the body to ease into the cleanse, and adequate rest is required.  Preparing the mind with intentions, affirmations, prayer, and meditation are equally important.  Lastly the body requires deep breathing, stretching, and movement.

A dietary cleanse can last from 3 to 21 days, or even longer.   Consider doing the cleanse in the following stages. The first stage is a Preparation Stage.  Ease into it by eliminating toxic foods like red meat, dairy, refined flour, caffeine, and sugar.  Then add in fresh juices, eating more organic vegetables, especially greens, as they will detoxify the system faster and eliminate cravings.   Then the more Intensive Stage eliminates all animal products and grains.  Now we add in heavier juicing of vegetables, green smoothies and a diet of raw or steamed organic vegetables. Fruits and fruit juices should be used lightly, or not at all because of the added sugars.  Adding a detoxifying drink of lemon and olive oil will greatly benefit your liver cleanse. The acids from the lemon will contract the liver, and the olive oil with ease out the toxins from your gall bladder.  Remove the peel of the lemon, then cut in quarters and remove the seeds. Then blend the lemon fruit with a cup and half of water, add a tablespoon of organic cold pressed olive oil and pinch of pink Himalayan salt.  Blend well and drink on an empty stomach at bedtime.  This detoxifying stage, can then be followed once again by the Preparation Stage.  The longer you can eat at this stage, the more vitality you will feel.

Remember to increase your fluid intake by drinking filtered, distilled or alkaline water, and herbal teas.  A facilitated cleanse with a Nutritionist, or Health Coach would further help to assist in a deeper cleanse and would address the specific needs of the individual. This provides a comprehensive program especially for anyone dealing with a health crisis.  They would also be able to include a specific  program of other healing modalities, herbs, supplements and super foods to further detoxify the body and insure optimal nutritional value.

Please note particularly for those that are new to detoxifying  or are currently in treatment for cancer or other illnesses,  do this under proper supervision and take your time introducing the raw foods. You may experience a detox reaction, for example, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea and dizziness. It is all good. The body is cleansing but again take your time.
