Fiesta Roasted Corn Salad

Fiesta Corn Salad Recipe For A Healthy Lifestyleby Susan Tick.

I know what most of you are thinking: Corn is a starch – how could it possibly help with cancer prevention? Well, I was just as surprised to hear that corn has it’s right to sit at the table. There is a recent research study at Cornell University which indicated that cooking corn unleashes beneficial nutrients including carotenoids (plant version of vitamin A) that can substantially reduce the chance of heart disease and cancer. Plus cooked corn retains its anti-oxidant activity even after the loss of vitamin C. In fact, cooking increases the anti-oxidants in corn by approximately 53 per cent. Isn’t this a good thing to find out. I love corn.

This wonderful recipe was shared with me and my husband, Bob by a friend, Susan Tick at Fire Island. I couldn’t stop eating it; it was so delicious. Spicy and hot and loaded with sharp tastes of onions, cilantro, and hot peppers.

Ingredients:

6 ears of roasted corn, kernels stripped off
1 tablespoon coconut oil
½ red onion, minced
½ green jalapeno, seeds in or out, depending on taste
1 tablespoon cilantro, minced
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
1 small handful of cherry tomatoes, halved
Pink Salt and pepper substitute to taste

Directions:

  1. In a large pan, heat the coconut oil over medium heat. Add the roasted corn kernels, and sauté for 5 or 6 minutes. Be watchful that the corn does not get mushy.
  2. Turn the heat off, and while the corn is still warm, then add remaining ingredients and toss well to combine. Add the jalapeno slowly, gauging how spicy you’d like the salad to taste.
  3. Season to taste with salt and pepper, and a bit more lime juice as needed. Serve warm or cold, topped with more tomatoes, lime and cilantro if you like.

Aromatherapy Pendant Diffusers Benefit Breast Cancer Patients

Aromatherapy pendant diffuser necklaces are worn by men and women to feel happier and healthier, especially when conflicted with emotional and physical stress and anxiety. These make great holiday gifts! Consider a Breast Cancer Ribbon pendant for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As an alternative and complementary therapy, people with cancer and other ailments benefit greatly from aromatherapy scents that smell good to them. An aromatherapy pedant diffuser necklace worn around the neck with a favorite scent in it can be very cheering and relaxing.

Specific scents from pure essential oils which may benefit breast cancer patients as aromatherapy include Frankincense and citrus oils, such as Lime, Lemon, Tangerine, Orange, Grapefruit. These scents work best when estrogen receptors are negative.

With breast cancer patients, diffusing Frankincense may help to relieve anxiety, while citrus oils may be more balancing. Inhaling the scent of Lavender may also relieve anxiety and insomnia, but only when estrogen receptors are negative.

For nausea, citrus and flower scents may be too strong, whereas Peppermint has shown to calm nausea in some breast cancer patients. Not everyone responds the same to a scent. Smell therapy is very personal and subjective, so whether a cancer patient or not, avoid scents you know are not pleasing to you. Stick with the ones that make you feel better.

To enjoy the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils in your diffuser pendant necklace, simply remove the diffuser cork, add the scent to the pendant, dab some on the diffuser cork, gently pop the diffuser cork back on the pendant and wear the necklace around your neck. Some people even use the diffuser pendant necklaces as car diffuser (around the rear view mirror).

Broccoli Chowder Recipe For Breast Cancer Prevention

Vegan Broccoli Chowder for Breast Cancer Prevention

By: Breast Cancer Yoga Staff.

We suggest enjoying a bowl of Broccoli Chowder as part of a cancer free lifestyle because broccoli is rich in cancer-fighting vitamins, such as B vitamins, folate, riboflavin, potassium, iron, and vitamin C.  It is also rich in phytonutrients such as sulforaphane, which inhibits the damaging effects of cancer-causing substances, and dithiolthione, which is believed to activate cancer-fighting enzymes in the body.  Broccoli may help convert estrogen to a less potent form, perhaps helping to prevent hormone-related cancers such as breast cancer. So try this satisfying remake of broccoli chowder with all the health benefits from our vegetable rich recipe we know you will enjoy.  Always use organic ingredients when possible.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large onion, chopped (1 1/2 cups)
  • 1 large carrot, diced (1/2 cup)
  • 2 stalks celery, diced (1/2 cup)
  • 1 large potato, peeled and diced (1 1/2 cups)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon 100% whole grain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 1/2 cups vegetable broth
  • 1/2 pound broccoli crowns
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt, or to taste

Directions:

  1. Heat oil in a Dutch oven or large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add onions, carrots and celery. Cook, stirring often, until onions and celery soften, 5-6 minutes. Add potatoes and garlic. Cook, stirring for 2 minutes. Stir in flour, dry mustard and cayenne. Cook, stirring for 2 minutes. Cut broccoli into 1-inch pieces, stems and florets separated. Add broth and broccoli stems. Bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to medium. Simmer, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes. Stir in florets, simmer, covered until broccoli is tender, about 10 minutes or more.
  2. Transfer 2 cups of the chowder to a bowl and mash; return to the pan. Stir in Cheddar and sour cream; cook over medium heat, stirring until the cheese is melted and the chowder is heated through. Season with salt.

The Dangerous Eight Indoor AIR Pollution Triggers – Carbon Monoxide

By Anthony Carvalho – Executive Director Healthy Living Group Corp.

Part II of VIII-Carbon Monoxide

Bacteria, Carbon Monoxide, Dead Skin, Mold, Pollen, Radon, Viruses and VOC’s.
All of the above contributes to Allergies, Asthma, Lung Cancer, Lung Disease, Respiratory Tract Infections and a host of Other Ailments.

Most of us are unaware that the air indoors can be 4 to 5 times more polluted than the air outdoors and in some cases 100 times more polluted. We spend about 95% of our day indoors. When you look at how some of us try to improve our overall health by eating healthy and exercising routinely we ignore our most important source of energy; The Air we Breathe. Air is responsible for over 50% of our energy, more than food and water combined.

I will go over each pollution trigger and solution with each blog posting.

Blog 2- Carbon Monoxide
So where do you start?

First and Foremost make sure you have at least one carbon monoxide detector in each bedroom of your home, it can save your life. It is also recommended that you have one in your basement, garage, living room and any other room you spend any significant amount of time in. Instead of just having a standard smoke alarm I recommend buying a combination carbon monoxide/smoke alarm. Another very important place to have a Carbon monoxide detector is at work.

Carbon monoxide is a gas that’s odorless, colorless and toxic. It is formed anytime there is combustion.

Some of the most common sources are:
barbeque, candles, car/truck, boiler, fire places, Furnace, generator, hot water heaters, gas stove, tobacco smoke.

Here are some dangerous scenarios:

  • Car in an attached garage with auto start is started accidentally by the key fob by a child or inadvertently while in your pocket.
  • Heat is not working and you use a gas stove to try to heat your house.
  • Flue pipe in boiler room rusts and disconnects from the chimney.
  • Your flue pipe becomes clogged due to animals looking for heat or trying to build a nest.
  • A crack develops in your furnace and instead of exhausting the carbon monoxide outdoors it enters your home.
  • Your fire in the fire place goes out and the hot air is no longer forced up the chimney so air starts to make its way down the chimney and keeps the embers smoldering filling your home with carbon monoxide.
  • Carbon monoxide can enter your car while working on your laptop or smart phone while sitting idling or from a hole in your exhaust pipe.
  • Carbon monoxide can also enter your car if you have a vehicle with a back/trunk window open (some SUV’s have this feature where you can drive with the back/trunk window open) causing the exhaust to get sucked back into the car as you drive.

As you can see there are many possibilities for Carbon Monoxide to affect you.

Some of the Symptoms from Carbon Monoxide exposure:
Chest Pain, Blurry Vision, Dizziness, Headache, Nausea, Shortness of Breath, Vomiting, and Weakness.

Higher levels can lead to death. If you are sleeping or have had a few alcoholic beverages you may not experience any symptoms until it’s too late.

What you need to do:

  1. Over 500 people per year die and thousands end up in the hospital every year because of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
  2. Put a Carbon Monoxide/smoke detector in every room in your home.
  3. Make sure there is a Carbon Monoxide detector at work
  4. Be conscious of anything that requires combustion in how it could release Carbon Monoxide in a confined space.
  5. Inspect all flue piping and chimneys twice a year in your home and or business.
  6. Have your car inspected annually or if involved in any type of car accident regardless of how minor it maybe to see if there are any exhaust leaks.

As you know we all learn by sharing experiences and knowledge. One person can’t know everything, feel free to email me if you have an experiences or ideas to share that can help others.

I will continue to post additional steps on how to improve the air quality in your home.

The key question is? Will you act on it? Most people unfortunately only act on news that will be catastrophic in the short term. If it is a long term issue most people tend to wait until it becomes a more pressing issue. I believe the time is now for us to start improving our health and well being.

Crystal Ideas For A Breast Cancer Healing Garden

Using Pink Quartz in a Breast Cancer Healing GardenBy Breast Cancer Yoga Staff.

A breast cancer therapeutic garden can benefit from adding the beauty and healing energy of crystals. No matter where you live or how big or small your garden is, crystals placed in and around your space will make for healthier, more productive environment. Crystals relate to the energies of the chakra or body part. For instance, pink stones which relate to the heart chakra are often used in complementary crystal healing for breast cancer.

Aquamarine, for those who have water in the garden:

  • Aquamarine crystal is not used in the garden, it is the stone of the sea.
  • For those who have a pond or lake that contains fish or other water creatures, a small aquamarine crystal placed in the water will keep fish and plants healthy.

Rose Quartz a soothing but powerful healing crystal:

  • Rose Quartz is the premier Heart and Higher Heart Chakra, consider helpful specifically for breast cancer.
  • Helpful to those with cancer.
  • Rose Quartz also carries the physical healing property of absorbing negative energies from the body.
  • Emotionally, Rose Quartz offers its high healing vibration to assist one in working through all types of grief.

Moss Agate is probably the most beneficial stone when you want increased plant growth:

  • Placing moss agate stones in a container pot or in the ground will increase flower and plant growth.
  • If you have fruit trees, try hanging a small moss agate stone from one of the branches to promote a healthy harvest.

Malachite is another green stone useful in the garden:

  • Malachite is a healing crystal and as such, can be placed in the garden to encourage growth and abundance.
  • It is also a protective stone, shielding us from the negative influences of electromagnetic fields, such as power lines. Placing a stone in the garden will protect your home from these sources.
  • Indoors, malachite is very effective when placed near computers and televisions to remove the negative energies from these devices.

Green Calcite, a pale green stone is another crystal useful in the garden:

  • Green calcite is also a healing stone and is often used to calm and soothe.
  • Offering a small stone with thanks to natures elements can result in a lush and beautiful garden.
  • If your property is too loud, crowded or over active, you can place a green calcite crystal in a flowerpot or under a tree to soothe the area.

Moonstone is a crystal associated with the moon and a symbol of fertility and used in the garden:

  • It encourages healthy plants and flowers
  • Promotes a soothing, restful area
  • Wear a moonstone while watering your flowers, clipping herbs or mowing the lawn
  • You can even hang one in a tree to increase growth

We feel that crystals benefit garden therapy for breast cancer healing and can be used along side regular medical care. Healing with crystals or any other modality is largely based on your intent – knowing and focusing on the outcome you desire, then being open and allowing the energy to ground through you.

Cancer Prevention and Treatment May Be the Same Thing

Michael Gregor, M.D. on Breast Cancer Authority BlogBy Michael Gregor, M.D., a physician, author, and internationally recognized speaker.

The breast cancer you may feel one day as a lump in the shower may have started 20 years before. We now suspect that all the epithelial cancers — breast, colon, lung, pancreas, prostate, ovarian, the ones that cause the vast majority of cancer deaths — may have been growing for up to 20 years or more. By the time it’s picked up, it may have already been growing, maturing, scheming for years, acquiring hundreds of new survival-of-the-fittest mutations to grow even quicker, better undermine our immune system.

So called early detection, like mammogram, is really, really late detection. People are considered “healthy” until they show symptoms but if we’ve been harboring a malignancy for 20 years we may feel all right, but we haven’t been.

So many people who do the right thing and improve their diet in hopes of preventing cancer may very well at that very moment be treating it, as well.

Cancer prevention and treatment may sometimes be the same thing.

Breast cancer can take decades to develop, so early detection via mammogram may be too late. Have a question about this video? Surviving Cancer & Depression: 4 Steps to Success (Part 2)

Surviving Cancer and Depression; 4 Steps To SuccessBy: Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanavos, International Bestselling Author, Breast Cancer Blogger & Cancer Hotline Counselor.

In part one of this article Depression is Deadlier than CANCER?: 7 Ways to Survive Treatment, we explored depression and cancer.

The recent suicide of actor Robin Williams has brought life and death associated with depression into our hearts and homes. It has deeply touched our lives and left us with many unanswered questions.  For those of us not suffering from depression, it was a surprise. For those of us touched by depression it was a wake-up call. For the whole world, it was a cry for help and a call to action.

Here are more facts and figures that may surprise and alarm you.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental illness is very common. One in five Americans aged 16-85 experience some form of mental illness in any year. Suicide is among the top 20 leading causes of death globally for all ages. According to (WHO), every year over 800,000 people die from suicide. That is an alarming statistic.

The most common mental illnesses are depressive, anxiety and substance use disorder. These three types of mental illnesses often occur in combination. For example, a person with an anxiety disorder could also develop depression, or a person with depression might misuse alcohol or other drugs, in an effort to self-medicate. A third combination would be incompatible pharmaceuticals that exacerbate mental illness during treatment for a physical illness.

One in two people or half the population in the world will suffer from some form of mental illness in their lifetime. One in three people will come down with some form of cancer in their lifetime. More people will have mental illness than cancer.

Cancer, like depression and many other diseases that were once considered terminal, is no longer a death sentence. It may take time and a team of experts to formulate a treatment that works for all diseases that plague our minds and bodies, but that help is available.  Knowing your options is paramount to being successful in health. The internet is a great way to connect with other patients, groups and organizations and to research information and success stories.

Success is possible.

Long-term follow-up procedures during and after any health related treatments are extremely important for keeping all diseases under control or cured.

Here are 4 steps to ensure personal success over depression during health treatments.

  1. Be an active part of your treatment team.
  2. Show up.
  3. Follow through.
  4. Focus on success.

It was not that long ago that many diseases now controllable such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, diabetes, blood pressure and heart disease were considered incurable. Now, stories of treatment success far outnumber the stories of failure. Many patients live with or beyond disease.  Decide to become one of the success stories.

Since the suicide of Robin Williams, the illness of depression has been in the news and on the minds of many cancer patients. Unfortunately, cancer and depression go together like peanut and butter. The pharmaceutical cocktail of anti-depression medication and chemotherapy can become a hair-raising roller coaster ride, if you have any hair left after chemo.

As an R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation Hotline Counselor, I mentor woman newly diagnosed with cancer who seek help through the HOTLINE’s center by calling 1-800-433-0464 and I’m pleased to say that I’ve seen a rise in the number of women talking about their depression.

Yes, you read that last line correctly

Keeping depression a secret is deadly.

Talking about depression brings a dark controlling force into the light where it can be seen and conquered. Trying to overcome depression that is kept a secret is like trying to fight an enemy that is an expert at hiding. It is shooting in the dark.

Being ashamed of depression is like being ashamed of having the flue. It’s not your fault that you have it. You did not deliberately go out and try to acquire any of these diseases.

Like life, sh#t happens. Find it. Fix it!

We are also learning that certain people are genetically predisposed to certain diseases. We are often not aware of that fact until certain tests are preformed when symptoms are displayed. Once test information is shared with us our lifestyle can be adjusted accordingly and our health monitored.

Life goes on. Statistics have proved that unhealthy diets and lifestyles can exacerbate an existing illness like cancer and depression. My book, Surviving Cancerland: Intuitive Aspects of Healing addresses this in chapter 35, The Finish Line and Depression.

There is also evidence that living a healthy lifestyle that includes a nutritious diet, plenty of exercise and good sleep and work habits and can decrease the chances of acquiring certain diseases like cancer and depression, keep them under control if they do occur, or from returning once they are cured. Ways to change diet and lifestyle are discussed in my book, Surviving Cancerland: Intuitive Aspects of Healing.

We’ve come a long way, Baby. Health care is not perfect, but it is improving and we have the statistics to prove it. Focus on that during times of trouble.

Fiesta Potato Delights

By Desiree Lange, Breast Cancer Yoga Staff.

Well my granddaughter, Desiree out did herself making these tasty finger foods, that actually ended up being our dinner, along with Kale Chips. Who said eating vegan is boring? This dish is so tasty that the second time around it didn’t last even a hour. My husband came home and gobbled the rest up. Of course after telling Desiree how delicious they were.

There are some amazing healthy ingredients in this recipe, that are organic, raw and perfect for healing. For example raw walnuts, cashews, fresh salsa and green onions. Spices like cumin, cayenne and pink salt – all good. Grapeseed oil and olive oil (very little of course) – all good. And then the best part, organic russet potatoes. Definitely on a cancer diet. Makes about 30 crisps.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Ingredients:
Potato Crisps
2 russet potatoes, sliced 1/4 inch round
1 tbsp. grapeseed oil
pinch pink salt and kelp and cayenne (in place of black pepper)

Walnut Meat:
1 cup organic toasted walnuts
1 tbsp. olive oil
1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/4 tsp. pink salt
1/9 tsp. cayenne pepper

Cashew Sour Cream:
Combine in a bowl 1 cup raw cashews and cover with filtered water, soak overnight. We cheated 1 hour but it seemed to work when we place boiling water over them. Drain and rinse – blend on high speed until cream is smooth. Then add the following ingredients:
2 tsp. fresh lemon
1 tsp. apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp. pink salt

Directions:

  1. Make potato crisps; Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Place and separate potatoes and drizzle them with oil. Then rub the oil out evenly.
  2. Sprinkle with salt and pepper substitute.
  3. Roast potatoes for 30 minutes, flipping them once after 15 minutes or until tender and brown. Then allow potatoes to cool.
  4. Make Walnut Meat: use a mini food processor, combine walnuts, chili powder, cumin, salt and cayenne into a fine crumble.
  5. To assemble: On each potato crisp slice place 1 tsp. of Cashew cream, followed with 1 tsp. walnut meat, salsa and green onions, and in that order.
  6. Serve while warm.

Love, love, love this recipe. Definitely a keeper.

Soothing and Healing FIR Infrared Cancer Treatment

Far Infrared Therapy For CancerBy Diana Ross Co-Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga.

This is week three of some pretty incredible alternative cancer treatments. I was fortunate enough to buy this FIR Infrared “Rainbow” some time back for aches and pains for me and my family. Now I use it all the time to generate heat “fever heat.” When cancer cells are heated past 41/43c degrees the blood flow is insufficient for the proper elimination of wastes (namely lactic acid) or proper oxygenation, due to the inability of the capillaries to dilate effectively at this higher temperature. Consequently the cancer cells become oxygen-deprived and lactic acid build ups, the pH of the cell will steadily drop, and the cell will die of its own acidity. Healthy cells have no problem regulating themselves at the same temperature (+ 41 degrees C) so I realized that this is a potential cancer treatment without damaging side effects to healthy cells!

What is Far Infrared therapy (FIR) and what does it do?

FIR Infrared Rays are waves of energy, totally invisible to the naked eye and capable of penetrating deep into the human body. The rays gently elevate the body’s surface temperature (107.6F/42 celsius and above; this enables the destruction of cancer cells), and activate major bodily functions.FIR Infrared Therapy For Cancer

FIR Infrared Studies:

Non-Thermal Effects of Far-Infrared Ray
Inhibitory Effects of Far-Infrared Irradiation Melanoma Cell Growth
Therapeutic benefits of irradiation with far-infrared rays (FIR) on breast cancer
FIR heat can penetrate through the body and kill cancerous cells
This finding suggested that FIR should be very effective medical treatment for some cancer cells
Studies investigating the effects of broadband infrared radiation (IR) on cancer cell

Another thing that I am doing is applying castor oil treatments (pack) over my chest and organs. I saturate the oil on a piece of flannel fabric. Placing a towel underneath my back (just in case) keeps the area clean from any leaks.

Castor oil works as an antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal agent. When applied topically it treats a variety of skin conditions, reduces pain, and stimulates immune system function. It also acts as a lymphatic stimulant so for me to have lymphatic node tumors – it works. Castor oil has been thoroughly investigated for its industrial use but only a minimal amount of research has been focused on its medicinal benefits. That said, the healing properties of castor oil appears to have survived countless generations of scrutiny. One of the more compelling health benefits is castor oil’s support of your immune system. This healing property does not require you ingesting the oil but only to apply it externally. The benefits of castor oil packs were popularized by the late psychic healer Edgar Cayce.

My friend Lorraine Aguilar from http://www.yogaflowstudio.com is my model. We spent the day going through all my protocols. It was a lot of fun checking everything out. Lorraine brought a “Heart and Lung” Yoga Video for us to explore so there was a lot of sharing and caring.

Last note I am also doing FIR Infrared Sauna treatments which is far more intense for the whole body but very therapeutic. I will save that for another day. Lots more to share. love and light everyone. Please post comments. I enjoy dialoging.
