Learn How Breast Cancer Patients Benefit From Forest Bathing

Try forest bathing to support your immune system

In 1982, the Forest Agency of Japan first proposed that ‘forest bathing,’ was good for your health. No, forest bathing is not dragging a bathtub into the woods and having a soak – although that does sound good! Rather it is visiting a forest or wood for relaxation, and gentle recreation, and breathing in the volatile substances from the trees. When did you last forest bathe?

Since 1982, forest bathing (aka ‘forest therapy’ and ‘Shinrin yoku’) has become a cornerstone of preventive health and healing in Japanese medicine. Many research studies, mainly from Japan and South Korea, have looked at how forest bathing creates positive effects. One of the key benefits is that it is seen to improve our immune function by increasing the number and activity of natural killer cells.

Natural Killer Cells

Natural killer (NK) cells are a type of white blood cells that provide a rapid response to viral-infected cells and cancer cells. These immune cells don’t rely on antibodies so are able to produce a much faster immune reaction than other immune cells. They have a tumor immunosurveillance role, directly killing tumor cells. Take a look at this brief video which shows you how they work:

Natural killer cells are therefore of prime importance to destroying cancer cells in our body. Thus we can see that using lifestyle approaches like forest bathing to improve our natural killer cell activity can help in both prevention of cancer – by killing those rogue tumor cells formed everyday – and in the prevention of metastasis of tumors.

Phytoncides

One of the factors that has been identified as causing these immune improvements is our breathing-in of phytoncides – the natural chemicals secreted by evergreen trees, such as a-pinen and limonene. The levels of phytoncide in the air seem to correlate with the improvements in immune functioning. If we look back in history, these health effects were recognized then; in the 1800s, many tuberculosis clinics were set up in pine forests. Patients’ outcomes were reported as them having a “forest cure.”

Health benefits of Forest Bathing

In addition to the benefits of increased NK cells and their activity, bathing ourselves in the forest environment has been shown to also:

  • reduce blood pressure
  • reduce stress
  • improve mood
  • increase energy
  • improve sleep
  • support deeper and clearer intuition
  • decrease adrenaline levels
  • reduce pain
  • ease mental fatigue

Incorporating forest bathing into your life

Trees, sunshine, grass, and wildlife all too frequently take a backseat in our busy city or urban lives.

Think back to the last time you were surrounded by nature – maybe a walk when you noticed the fresh, vibrant green of a new leaf, or an insect, or the color of the bark of a tree, or saw a rabbit hop past. These moments of discovery and fascination are spontaneous and effortless kinds of attention, not like the attention we have to use at work or during most of our day. As we follow our curiosity from the leaf to a flower to a butterfly, we relax in an exploration of nature which gives our attention-driven brain a break. The sounds of nature are also important, for example, the calming sound of water helps to balance our hormones. Forest bathing doesn’t involve going for a strenuous hike in the woods; rather, it has a gentleness and awareness to it – a sensory experience.

So consider giving yourself a break, and find some time this week to be in nature. Let that effortless attention and fascination take over. And if you aren’t up for that, try bringing some nature indoors to you – open the windows, look at the trees, listen to the sound of a waterfall on your computer, put a nature screensaver on your computer screen, watch a nature DVD…. Yes, even looking at a scene of a forest has been found to reduce cortisol levels (stress hormone) 13% compared to looking at an urban scene.

Resources

For more information on forest bathing, take a look at this Shinrin-yoku website and the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. Many of the research studies are shown on the Association website too. These resources also include information about guides, local walks, and training to become a forest therapist. The walks are short in distance and focus on breathing, relaxing, listening, healing, wandering, and touch.

Reflexology in Cancer

Advantages of Reflexology for Breast CancerWhat is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the appositeness of appropriate pressure to specific points on the feet, hands and the ear. A reflexologist is of the opinion that these areas and reflex points harmonize to various organs of the human body as well as the systems and that applying pressure over them has a beneficial effect on the persons’ general health.

How does reflexology work?

The primary mechanism behind reflexology is that it helps in reducing the stress that in turn increases the potential for healing and help body cell in re-growth.

Sir Henry Head and Sir Charles Sherrington performed a research and according to their study, there is a relationship between the skin and the central nervous system. That’s the theory behind the healing mechanism of reflexology, which is, by applying pressure at a certain point, the body starts healing or reducing pain.

Where can you find reflexology?

Universally, practitioners who are licensed by the American Reflexology Certification Board can be found in certain therapeutic settings around the world.

Advantages of reflexology with different types of cancers:

People with cancer gain benefit from reflexology as it helps in reducing their anxiety, their levels of stress, and contributes in relieving their pain. It also aids in elevating their mood and gives the state of being well.

Some other benefits of this therapy are:

  • Its ability to support nerve stimulation
  • increase energy
  • boosts circulation
  • induce a deep state of relaxation
  • eliminate toxins
  • stimulate the central nervous system
  • prevent migraine
  • clean up urinary tract condition
  • speed recovery from trauma or surgery
  • helps relieve sleep disorder
  • reduce depression
  • relieves pain

What is the effect of reflexology on metastasis?

Massage has shown to be beneficial in reducing one’s anxiety

Does reflexology enhance the effect of chemotherapy?

As our body ages, the peripheral nerve endings become less sensitive in various parts of our body system, particularly in the extremities. By applying pressure on a single point, nerve function starts stimulating around on more than 7000 nerve endings which increase its sensitivity and keeps it in a healthy state. People who are having chemo with reflexology experience fewer episodes of shortness of breath, which is a common side effect faced by patients with chemotherapy. Patients with reflexology can perform their daily task quickly like climbing the stairs, getting dressed, going grocery, etc. as compared to patients who are having chemo session alone.

However, certain research studies still claim that reflexology does not seem to be effective in reducing emotional problems that one faces due to chemotherapy, such as anxiety, stress, and other psychological problems. It also does not aid in reducing nausea, which is a very common side effect of chemotherapy. Hence, the role of this therapy for cancer treatment is still controversial.

Does reflexology enhance the effect of radiation therapy?

Cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy often complain about early fatigue. Reflexology for cancer treatment has shown to relieve these symptoms of easy fatigue, sickness, anxiety and nausea in such individuals. Studies have reported better experiences of patients with breast cancer, who undergo radiotherapy with reflexology for cancer treatment. They are observed to have an improved quality of sleep and lesser fatigue during and after their radiation sessions.

Can reflexology reduce the side effects of radiation and chemo drugs?

Wyatt said that “These supportive measures are intended to create hard link for the patient to the treatment center,”

Reflexology reduces the side effect of chemotherapy because it enhances the function of peripheral nerve endings, along with improving the use of the central nervous system. It is also beneficial because it helps in alleviating the mood symptoms and in decreasing nausea

Wyatt said that “We see things like a decline in depression and anxiety, and improvements in spirituality and emotional quality of life,”

According to research at MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY, patients who are having chemotherapy face a lot of problems with anxiety, stress, nausea, and pain. Reflexology is the treatment which helps them cope with these side effects.

What is the influence of reflexology on the immune system?

The most suitable way to boost your body’s defense mechanism is by undertaking reasonable measures such as reflexology and acupuncture.

Stress, lack of sleep, obesity and poor diet: these are some features which reduce immunity whereas reflexology is the treatment which deals with all these predisposing agents. It supports and enhances the peripheral nerve ending which in turn helps in reducing the stress and sleep disorder. All these factors eventually contribute towards and improved immune system.

Does reflexology increase the quality of life and the survival rate?

Reflex therapy increases the quality of life because it aids in reducing stress, anxiety, pain, reduce depression, lack of sleep; aces recovery from surgery, prevents a migraine, enhances central nervous system function and much more.

There are seven important sites in our body which help in increasing our immune system which indirectly boost the quality of life. These points are mentioned as follows:

  • great ravine
  • great rushing
  • three yin crossing
  • Three-mile points
  • she mansion
  • crooked pond
  • upper si of qi

SUMMARY:

Reflexology is the art of applying pressure on different parts of body to enhance nerve functioning in the body. It aids in reducing pain, stress, and nausea which arise as a consequence of various cancer therapies. It also boosts the immune system of our body.

Natural Treatment of Cancer Background Information and Therapies

Natural Treatment of Cancer Background information and therapies

Doctors are trained to treat illness with medication (chemicals) and surgery (not with herbs and diets). Normally they will be unwilling to treat patients with natural products (as a result of their training and knowledge). If you have decided to take the alternative route you should be knowledgeable in natural treatments (this report gives you the necessary tools) and preferably have some family members on your side. Your doctor may be asked to keep an eye over you, as he/she could check on your health and do blood and urine tests. In this way your condition is objectively monitored and you will know if you are getting better and if your diet provides enough minerals, etc. If your doctor is unsympathetic or you need a doctor with a more holistic approach, look on the internet for medical associations in your country that concentrate on a natural approach.

Hydrogen Peroxide Oxygen Therapy To Protect & Restore Wellness

Hydrogen Peroxide Bath Therapy For CancerBy: Breast Cancer Yoga Staff.

Medical researchers around the world have found that many degenerative diseases are anaerobic. That means lacking oxygen. It has been suggested that the spread or metastasis of cancer is directly proportionate to the amount of oxygen around the cancer cells. The more oxygen the slower the cancer spread. The less oxygen, the faster the cancer spreads. Hydrogen peroxide provides extra oxygen.

Hydrogen peroxide oxygen therapies may help protect and restore one’s wellness level. Healthy cells need oxygen and tumor cells cannot survive in oxygen. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) provides extra oxygen atoms that may slow down the spread of cancer.

Hydrogen Peroxide Therapies Include:

  1. Hydrogen Peroxide Daily Body Rub: Have a daily body rub with 3% hydrogen peroxide, best after a bath or shower.
  2. Hydrogen Peroxide Bath: A 20 to 25 minute hydrogen peroxide bath allows the body to absorb the peroxide through the skin.
  3. Bathe Infected Tumor: It may also helpful to bathe the infection or tumor site daily in 3% hydrogen peroxide or better cover it with a cloth soaked in it, preferably combined with a honey pack or mixed with aloe vera gel.

No one can legitimately say that one therapy or surgery is the cure for cancer. In most instances it is your environment, exercise, diet and complementary therapies all contributing towards assisting your cellular body towards recovery. Always consult your healthcare professional before starting a hydrogen peroxide oxygen therapy.

On A Personal Note: My Mother, Diana Ross, had purchased some of these referenced materials and the 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide kit during her cancer treatments. It is with love that I now share with you this oxygen therapy in the hope that this article will help you in your journey towards cancer recovery.Hydrogen Peroxide Therapy For Cancer Kit

Soothing and Healing FIR Infrared Cancer Treatment

Far Infrared Therapy For CancerBy Diana Ross Co-Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga.

This is week three of some pretty incredible alternative cancer treatments. I was fortunate enough to buy this FIR Infrared “Rainbow” some time back for aches and pains for me and my family. Now I use it all the time to generate heat “fever heat.” When cancer cells are heated past 41/43c degrees the blood flow is insufficient for the proper elimination of wastes (namely lactic acid) or proper oxygenation, due to the inability of the capillaries to dilate effectively at this higher temperature. Consequently the cancer cells become oxygen-deprived and lactic acid build ups, the pH of the cell will steadily drop, and the cell will die of its own acidity. Healthy cells have no problem regulating themselves at the same temperature (+ 41 degrees C) so I realized that this is a potential cancer treatment without damaging side effects to healthy cells!

What is Far Infrared therapy (FIR) and what does it do?

FIR Infrared Rays are waves of energy, totally invisible to the naked eye and capable of penetrating deep into the human body. The rays gently elevate the body’s surface temperature (107.6F/42 celsius and above; this enables the destruction of cancer cells), and activate major bodily functions.FIR Infrared Therapy For Cancer

FIR Infrared Studies:

Non-Thermal Effects of Far-Infrared Ray
Inhibitory Effects of Far-Infrared Irradiation Melanoma Cell Growth
Therapeutic benefits of irradiation with far-infrared rays (FIR) on breast cancer
FIR heat can penetrate through the body and kill cancerous cells
This finding suggested that FIR should be very effective medical treatment for some cancer cells
Studies investigating the effects of broadband infrared radiation (IR) on cancer cell

Another thing that I am doing is applying castor oil treatments (pack) over my chest and organs. I saturate the oil on a piece of flannel fabric. Placing a towel underneath my back (just in case) keeps the area clean from any leaks.

Castor oil works as an antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal agent. When applied topically it treats a variety of skin conditions, reduces pain, and stimulates immune system function. It also acts as a lymphatic stimulant so for me to have lymphatic node tumors – it works. Castor oil has been thoroughly investigated for its industrial use but only a minimal amount of research has been focused on its medicinal benefits. That said, the healing properties of castor oil appears to have survived countless generations of scrutiny. One of the more compelling health benefits is castor oil’s support of your immune system. This healing property does not require you ingesting the oil but only to apply it externally. The benefits of castor oil packs were popularized by the late psychic healer Edgar Cayce.

My friend Lorraine Aguilar from http://www.yogaflowstudio.com is my model. We spent the day going through all my protocols. It was a lot of fun checking everything out. Lorraine brought a “Heart and Lung” Yoga Video for us to explore so there was a lot of sharing and caring.

Last note I am also doing FIR Infrared Sauna treatments which is far more intense for the whole body but very therapeutic. I will save that for another day. Lots more to share. love and light everyone. Please post comments. I enjoy dialoging.

Amma Therapy – My Next Favorite Cancer Treatment

Amma Therapy Cancer TreatmentBy Diana Ross, Co-Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga.

I love my Amma cancer treatments. I have had the great fortune to have incredible healing practitioners coming into my life and working on and with me. Elizabeth Valenzuela is just one of these special people. Her wholistic and spiritual approach to healthy living is an adventure for me into understanding myself and reaching my true destiny of love and purpose. I know it sounds corny but I am learning so much and I so believe that Elizabeth was placed on my path of wellness to expand my consciousness and gain a greater awareness of purpose. Elizabeth and her Amma Therapy make this possible. Besides being a spiritual and sensitive person, her passion lies with helping animals that suffer and cannot speak. She has such a loving connection to all creatures.

So What is Amma Therapy?

Amma Therapy is an ancient healing system which dates back some 5000 years ago during the Yellow Emperor era. It is a highly skilled system of body work therapy which employs massage techniques, manipulations, and the application of pressure, friction and touch-to-points on the energy channels on which they are found. The channels are the pathways through which energy passes throughout our bodies. Amma, is less defined by a specific technique than by its purpose, philosophy, and sophisticated practice as a healing art.

Amma Therapy is fundamentally an energetic therapy focused on the balance and movement of “life energy” in the human body. Starting with the basic application of hand techniques used to balance the flow of energy. Then other methods were developed, including the use of needles (acupuncture), heat (moxibustion), skeletal manipulation, the appropriate use of herbal medications, diet, and then meditation. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) all these methods target the flow and balance of energy in the channels. The modern Amma therapist is knowledgeable in all of these areas but relies primarily on the sensitivity and strength of the hands to manipulate life energy.

Am-ma means “push-pull” in Chinese. Amma Therapy utilizes all the techniques of the major forms of therapeutic massage:

Deep pressure and point manipulation used in Shiatsu massage are applied to attain the desired effects of energetic movement and release of muscular contraction.

Foot reflex points commonly referred to as “foot reflexology” are stimulated during to these points which often has a profound outcome on the deeper organs and tissues within the body.

Deep facial manipulation techniques and connective tissue manipulation used in Rolfing are used for muscle stretching and pushing techniques that are common to European or Swedish massage.

In addition, the master therapist is well versed in, and fully capable of, the skeletal manipulations that are the basis of chiropractic. Elizabeth also uses essential oils and healing crystals. She feels the energy blockages and moves energy through. I can feel the warmth rising and my breath being freed. Love my Amma Treatments. Love having Elizabeth in my life especially now. But everything has a reason to appear so here I am sharing my next favorite treatment.

love and light,
Diana

A Look at the Complementary Treatment Options for Cancer

Complementary Treatment Options For Cancer

Bonnie Coberly is a Certified Health Counselor at Natural Horizons Wellness Centers.

Most people diagnosed with cancer are aware of the standard medicine options — chemotherapy, radiation therapy and so on — but they unfortunately don’t hear as much about the other side of complementary treatments. The thing is, cancer treatment is aggressive and powerful; it has to be, in order to successfully combat the disease. But because it is so intense, traditional cancer treatment often comes with side effects. These side effects, which range from pain and nausea to fatigue and discouragement, are tough to face, too. That’s where complementary treatments and therapies come into play. By engaging in activities like yoga or acupuncture, for example, or by making certain diet and lifestyle changes, patients often find relief and help in the midst of cancer care.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the leading complementary treatment options for cancer, along with what advantages they offer:

Traditional Chinese Medicine: A major part of Chinese medicine is Chinese herbal medicine, a discipline that focuses on restoring the natural balances of energy to the body and spirit. This treatment can help alleviate patient complaints and symptoms associated with medical care. According to most Chinese herbalists, “[H]erbal remedies can help ease the side effects of standard cancer treatments, control pain, improve quality of life, strengthen the immune system, and in some cases, stop tumor growth and spread,” says the American Cancer Society®. Herbs are available in various teas, tinctures, powders, pills, syrups, etc., and may be purchased at health food stories as well as from traditional Chinese practitioners.

Acupuncture: A form of ancient Chinese medicine, acupuncture offers several benefits for cancer patients. “It’s been shown that acupuncture reduces nausea and vomiting after surgery and chemotherapy,” says Cancer Treatment Centers of America®. “In addition, research has shown that it can relieve pain, possibly by triggering the body’s pain-killing chemicals and by inducing the release of chemicals that regulate blood pressure and flow.”

Hypnosis: Because hypnotherapy moves a person into a deeply relaxed, trance-like state, it can be helpful in managing pain and stress in a patient’s life. “A report from the American National Institute for Health in 1996 stated that hypnosis can help to reduce some kinds of cancer pain,” says Cancer Research U.K. What’s more, “in 2012, researchers in Spain again reviewed studies of children with cancer and found that hypnosis appeared to help reduce pain and distress from cancer or from medical procedures.”

Yoga: Long known as a relaxing, meditative form of exercise, yoga also offers distinct advantages to cancer patients. “Research has shown that yoga can be used to control physical functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, metabolism, body temperature, brain waves, and skin resistance,” says the American Cancer Society. It can relieve stress, improve sleep and fight feelings of anxiety and/or depression.

Balanced Diet: While there are many different diets and eating plans recommended for cancer patients, if you are undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment, the most important thing to remember is to give your body support. To do this, the American Cancer Society recommends “eating a balanced diet that includes five or more servings a day of vegetables and fruit, choosing whole grains over processed and refined foods, and limiting meats and animal fats.” It goes on to suggest that it “is best to choose foods from a variety of fruits, vegetables and other plant sources such as nuts, seeds, whole grain cereals, and beans to take in all needed nutrients.” By supporting your body through a balanced diet that minimizes processed food and junk, you give it fuel to heal during treatment.

Art or Music Therapy: Designed to reduce stress, anxiety and fear in a patient, both art and music therapy can be helpful outlets for patients who are undergoing the often emotionally taxing and physically draining cancer treatment process. In music therapy, patients enjoy musical experiences that are designed to relieve pain, nausea, depression, stress, etc. In art therapy, they get a chance to creatively use materials to both express themselves and work out their feelings. In both types of therapy, sessions can be catered to the individual needs of the patient. Plus, “researchers have found that music therapy, when used with anti-nausea drugs for patients receiving high-dose chemotherapy, can help ease nausea and vomiting,” says the American Cancer Society. Likewise, “numerous case studies have reported that art therapy benefits patients with both emotional and physical illnesses,” it also states.

Wherever a patient is in his or her cancer journey, turning to complementary treatment options can be a wonderful resource. These supportive therapies offer assistance and help outside standard medical care, as well as a tangible way to move toward better quality of life.

What is Essential Oils?

Lavender Essential Oil For Breast Cancer– Cynthia Shankman‏

Essential oils, also known as Aromatherapy, has grown in popularity in the breast cancer community over the past several years.  Along with other alternative therapies, such as massage, acupuncture, and energy healing, essential oils are now easily available for personal use.   There was a time when essential oils were only available from a professional Aromatherapist.  Today they can be purchased in stores, online, and at farmer’s markets.

Essential oils have a long history of use for health, wellness and beauty.  They used by the Egyptians for beauty and spiritual ceremonies.  In biblical times, oils were brought to the Christ Child as the most valued gifts of the times.

You may have interest in experiencing essential oils for yourself as they contain hundreds of healing compounds in just a single drop.  They smell great and contain antibacterial, antifungal, antispasmodic, anticancer, and antiseptic qualities.

Is important to understand that not all essential oils are created equal.  95% of all essential oils are created for the food and cosmetic industries; these oils do not contain the healing power of nature; they do not contain the hundreds of healing compounds in a single drop.   Let’s review the 4 different standards of essential oils so that you may get the best quality available.

Fragrance Grade:  These oils are used for perfumes, candles, and cleaning products.  Most often these fragrances are made from synthetic ingredients in a laboratory.  They do not contain healing compounds.

Food Grade: These oils are created for the food industry for use in mouthwash, chewing gum, mints, and candy, etc.  These oils are most often created in a laboratory of synthetic ingredients.

Health Food Store Quality:  These oils are an improvement over the other two previous synthetic categories.  They smell great and do contain some benefit, but they cannot be placed directly on the body or taken internally as supplements because they do contains some fillers, extenders, or are processed through low quality distilling practices.

Therapeutic Grade: These oils contain hundreds of healing compounds in each drop. They are properly distilled and properly packaged.  They are pure and contain no fillers.  They can affect the body for change through oxygenation, cleansing, calming, and focus.

Once you have secured high quality, therapeutic grade essential oils, there are many ways to use them on a daily basis for improving body, mind, and spirit.

Daily Uses For Essential Oils:

Improves flexibility
Improves sleep
Reduces aches and pains
Relieves nausea
Enhances beautiful skin
Improves eyesight
Diminishes scars
Cleanses mouth and teeth naturally
Replaces some over the counter medication
Relieves earaches
Reduces stress
Increases weight loss
Improves moods
Eases earaches
Soothes lung and respiratory issues
Treats foot problems
Heals cuts and scrapes
Repels bugs
Relieves allergies
Detoxs liver
Moves lymph

There is so much more that essential oils can do.

In coming months we will discuss the specific uses for all the varieties of therapeutic grade essential oils.
