Powerful Antioxidant Breakfast Smoothie For A Cancer Diet

According to this study, by far the most comprehensive of its kind in history, there are only three whole foods on the planet that have more antioxidant power than cloves. One of them is amla—dried Indian gooseberries. Now, not only is it more powerful, but also more palatable. You could add a whole teaspoon of amla to a smoothie, and probably wouldn’t even taste it. Try doing that with a teaspoon of powdered cloves. One sip; you’d be on the floor!

Let’s look at the antioxidant content of some typical American breakfast foods: bacon [7] and eggs [+8], for example. A bowl of corn flakes [25] with milk [+9]. Egg McMuffin [16]. Pancakes [16] with maple syrup [+9]. Bagel [24] with cream cheese [+2].

Dr. Greger’s Breakfast Smoothie

  • A cup of unsweetened soy milk (or hemp milk, or almond milk) – Antioxidant 16
  • A half a cup of frozen blueberries – Antioxidant 535
  • Whoa! Alright? Already, I’ve got to shrink the scale way down.
  • The pulp of a nice ripe Mexican mango. Note the mango alone has more antioxidants than the other breakfasts. Antioxidant 125
  • A tablespoon of ground flax seeds
  • And my previous secret ingredient, a palmful of bulk white tea leaves – Antioxidant 101
  • A teaspoon of that gooseberry powder – Antioxidant 782

  1. Just throw them in there and blend them in.

Now, that used to be my breakfast smoothie, but now, a teaspoon of that gooseberry powder [+782], and we’re off the charts again. Look at it. That’s about four cents’ worth of amla—four pennies—and look what it does to my smoothie. 1,500 units of antioxidant power, and I haven’t even fully woken up yet! Way more than the five other meals combined. In fact, more than the average person gets in an entire week.

I could drink my smoothie and eat nothing but donuts the rest of the week, and most people still wouldn’t catch up. Notice, though, that even though I packed the blender with amazing stuff— blueberries, tea leaves—fully half of the antioxidant power came from that single teaspoon, that four cents’ worth of powdered gooseberries.

Chocolate Strawberry Hemp Smoothie For A Cancer Diet

Chocolate Strawberry Hemp Smoothie For A Cancer DietBy: Lisa Robbins, A Holistic Nutritionist and Author of The Cancer Journal ~ Heal Yourself!. The health benefits you will receive from a “Chocolate Strawberry Hemp Smoothie” are: cancer fighting antioxidants from strawberries, omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids from hemp milk, and phytoestrogens to prevent breast cancer growth found in flax seed.

Hemp milk is one of the healthiest milks to use for this cancer fighting smoothie recipe because it has a balanced ratio of omega fats. It is also a safe option for people who are allergic to tree nuts or soy. It may be a little hard to find so we have included a recipe on how to make your own homemade hemp milk.

How To Make A Chocolate Strawberry Hemp Smoothie

  • 1 cup raw hemp milk
  • 2 tablespoons raw cocoa powder
  • 1 small banana
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seed

  1. Add all ingredients to blender
  2. Blend until smooth
  3. Enjoy

How To Make Homemade Hemp MilkHow To Make Raw Hemp Milk

Nut and seeds milks are very simple to make and take all of 30 seconds. Blend a handful of raw hemp seeds and two cups of fresh clean water until smooth and creamy, about one minute.

  • Handful of Hemp Seeds
  • 2 Cups Alkaline Water

  1. Add all ingredients to blender
  2. Blend until smooth and creamy
  3. If you don’t like the fiber in your nut milk (it’s kind of chalky) just filter the milk through cheesecloth or a nut milk bag, which you can purchase at a health food store.

It is best to drink it hemp milk with its full of fibre, minerals and protein. You can also pour the milk off the top from the blender and place it in a jar. Use the remaining fibre in a smoothie by adding more water, a banana (or other fresh or frozen fruit like mango, pineapple, apple, pear, or any type of berry), a large handful of fresh leafy greens and a knob of fresh ginger root.

Keep your nut milk refrigerated. It will only last one or two days in the fridge, so use it up.

Use fresh, raw nut or seed milk in a glass by itself, in a smoothie to keep you from getting hungry longer, in cream soups, or in any recipe that calls for milk.

What kind of nuts or seeds can you use?

All kinds!

Macadamia nuts are great for nut milks because they make the smoothest, creamiest milk, but they are also the most expensive and hard to find.

Another favourite is creamy raw cashew milk, or almond milk made from slivered almonds, so you don’t have to soak the acidy skins off.

One of the healthiest milks is from hemp seeds, which have a balanced ratio of omega fats. Others seeds work well too, sunflower, pumpkin, even sesame seeds can be made into milk.

The only criteria are that they are raw, and if they have skins, like whole almonds and walnuts, that they are soaked for three or four hours first. Soaking removes hard-to-digest enzyme inhibitors that coat most nuts and seeds, and makes your nut milk much more palatable without bitter skins.

Raw Milk Variation

Cocoa: Warm it with a spoonful each of organic fair trade cocoa and unpasteurized honey.
