Reiki And Cancer Treatment

Reiki For Breast Cancer HealingBy: Breast Cancer Yoga Staff, Diana Ross, E-RYT 500 Co-Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga.

Reiki is being used at a growing number of top progressive hospitals across the US, and in many other hospitals throughout the world. Reiki is used to augment conventional therapy and to help reduce the cancer patients’ time in the hospital and the need for medication (especially pain-relieving medication). Reiki is better accepted by conventional doctors and hospitals if it is explained in conventional terms, such as promoting relaxation and healing, rather than in metaphysical terms.

“Reiki is the primal energy of the universe being guided by the highest wisdom of the universe.”

Reiki beneficial for radiation treatment and chemotherapy

It is at its simplest, a relaxation technique which relaxes the body, mind, and spirit, all of which are beneficial to healing any condition. There have not been any known cases of Reiki interacting with medications; on the contrary, Reiki has been known to aid with side effects from anesthesia, radiation treatment and chemotherapy. Most patients experience less nausea and have a quicker recovery when having Reiki sessions.

  • Reiki is a complementary therapy option that promotes relaxation, decreases anxiety and discomfort.
  • Used as an effective healing touch therapy for stress reduction and pain control.
  • It assists patients both when in the hospital, and during their continued recovery after leaving the hospital.
Reiki as an effective integrative medical tool

Reiki Energy Healing is a form of hands-on healing practice used to promote physical and psychological well-being in the user developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. Since coming to America in the mid 1900s, it has become a popular form of complementary and alternative medicine. It has also become increasingly more mainstream. Reiki has gained ground and is recognized as an effective integrative medical tool.

Reiki is a simple relaxation or energy balancing technique. Reiki energy is known as a primal energy that is responsible for the health and well-being of all living things.  So all encompassing is the importance of this energy that it is considered to be the manifesting force behind everything that exists. This energy that is within our physical body, mind and emotions can be directly effected by thoughts and feelings. If we have positive thoughts and feelings, our energy will be strengthened. It will give us greater confidence, more energy and the opportunity for greater success in what we pursue, like better health. Now on the other hand, if we have negative thoughts and feelings, we are likely to have less energy, want to do less and are less likely to flourish.

Reiki as an adjunct complementary therapy to patients

Doctors have been known to tell their patients that are receiving Reiki to continue sessions since they see the benefits of Reiki. Interestingly, there are many doctors that have taken Reiki classes as well. The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas is a world renown cancer-treatment hospital that first offered Reiki classes in 2001.   Then in 2003 offered Reiki sessions as an adjunct complementary therapy to patients.

Researchers are now studying Reiki in earnest because of the extraordinary positive results in healing. Interestingly enough the more scientifically minded want to know if the benefit of Reiki comes from suggestion alone, which is called the placebo effect, or if there are positive benefits beyond this.

Reiki for relief from the physical and emotional effects of stress

Reiki does not replace medication. However, because of its relaxation effects and overall benefits, some patients have found that they might require less medication. Reiki is used to help to balance and harmonize the over-all well-being of the body, mind and spirit.  It also brings relief from the physical and emotional effects of stress and anxiety. Reiki is an excellent relaxation technique that has great healing potential.

Both powerful and gentle, Reiki has aided in the healing of many illnesses, including headaches, colds, insomnia, fatigue, heart disease, broken bones and cancer. It has been shown to relieve pain, assist the body in clearing toxins from chemotherapy and radiation treatments. After even one Reiki treatment patients have expressed an increase in feeling wellness and in a quicker recovery from injuries, surgery or trauma.

It is important to note that Reiki is not an alternative cancer treatment. It is not used to cure cancer or in place of treatment. Reiki is a complementary therapy, used to ease the emotional and physical side effects of injury, illness or treatment.

Reiki is a wonderful ally in our quest to live a healthy, and productive life.  Its higher wisdom knows how to heal any difficulty or condition we may come across in life, and adjusts it response to our individual needs.  The good news is that anyone can learn Reiki.  So I leave you with this inquiry to personally explore about this invisible energy that has the capacity to change someones overall condition. I recommend everyone should try one session with a well know practitioner and see for themselves. Good luck and good energy.

Complementary Therapies and Breast Cancer Recovery

Complementary Therapies for Breast Cancer Recovery
Complementary therapies are used alongside medical treatment(s) for breast cancer to support the patient’s recovery during their cancer journey. It should be noted that an integrated approach to cancer care would include the best of medical treatment and the best of evidence-based, supportive complementary standards. Complementary therapies would include such areas as botanicals, yoga, meditation, aromatherapy, massage and reiki.

Aromatherapy Massage to Reduce Anxiety
Receiving an aromatherapy massage during and after recovery can have a positive influence on psychologic parameters of a patient. One evidence based study from Japan showed results that anxiety was reduced in just one, 30 minute aromatherapy massage. This study also showed a reduction in hospital anxiety and depression scale with aromatherapy massages for breast cancer patients.

Medicinal Herbal Teas to Reduce Stress
Botanical medicinals, include herbal teas like chamomile, peppermint, and catnip. These teas are beneficial in supporting the physical and emotional needs of the patient. They help with relieving nausea, insomnia and assisting in soothing nerves. It is common knowledge that herbal teas, aromatherapy and massage oils are beneficial to help support the personal and emotional needs of the patient.

Yoga Therapy to Reduce Nervousness and Strengthen the Mind
Yoga is now being studied in great lengths because of it’s demonstration in improving the overall quality of life for those in recovery. Breathing, stretching and strengthening will tone and build the mind and body.  When the mind comes into a balance state, better choices are made.  When the body comes into nurtured with yoga the immune system is boosted to fight off disease and illness. In order to create this equanimity of the whole person, yoga, breathing and meditation can influence the recovery process for many.

Healing With Reiki – An All Inclusive Method

Reiki For Breast Cancer

Many people are still unfamiliar with Reiki and what it means.

Reiki is a type of energy healing method that has been past down traditionally from teacher (Reiki Master) to Student, holding the integrity of the practice as traditionally as possible. Interpretations may vary yet the purpose still remains that of healing the whole person.

Reiki is an ancient healing practice utilizing universal life energy also known as Chi or Prana ( The force that sustains life itself ) This energy is translated through the practitioner to the patient in need of healing by laying of the hands upon or hovering above the patient.

Healing occurs naturally, effortlessly and at the patient’s soul level’s pace, I will explain further what this means.

When speaking of Reiki your not only speaking of potentially healing at the the physical level. It is scientifically proven that the body as a whole is multidimensional, made up of about 93% energy and not just skin and bones.  When treating the whole person as western medicine typically fails to do with their “pop a pill” and “quick fix”  methods, on an energetic level, Reiki addresses the concerns of a patient’s emotional, physical, mental and spiritual levels bringing light to the person as a  whole and not just the symptom or labeled diagnosis which itself posses a limiting possibility for treatments but that’s a different topic all together.

We were born with everything we need to support our lives through this journey and with the ability to heal ourselves and others given the proper care mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually throughout our journey. What typically happens to our divine beings as soon as we are born into this world is we are bombarded by chemicals, poked and prodded, and initially told we are incapable of naturally taking care of ourselves as soon as mom steps into the hospital for check in. The Chemicals that run through our virgin blood stream is communicating to our physical system that what we are just not good enough. Mom is told she is incapable of giving birth naturally and is prepped for the assembly line for the business of being born. Follow this introduction with a bombardment of pharmaceuticals, a poor diet and a constantly stressful environment weather it be home or work or both we are faced with a human crisis that can only be treated by confronting the entire being one level at a time.

As you see from the day we are born we are delivered into a system that tells our spirit and body that we cannot survive without interference. The truth is not only can we survive without interference but we are capable of thriving even amongst interference. So from day one our psyche is challenged and our divine selves are veiled before us. Leaving us with a sense of amnesia and in a state of therapy towards our true and powerful selves. Reiki works to unveil and unravel our powerful and divine being by peeling the layers like an onion one level at a time or multi-levels at a time depending on where the patient is as their soul’s journey. Their are many forms of energy healing and Reiki is just one of them as a non invasive way to heal on many levels which is very subtle yet can be potentially a very powerful tool for transformation and healing into ones divine self.

  • When the body is healthy but the mind is not, the person will suffer illness.
  • When the mind is healthy but the body is not, the person will suffer illness.
  • When the spiritual self is undernourished and the physical self is over nourished the person will suffer illness.
  • When the emotional self is neglected or overindulged the person will suffer illness.

The whole person is intricate & multifaceted on many levels and when one level is off balance other levels will suffer the consequence which is why self awareness through the practice of meditation, yoga, body care (Massage), energy work, emotional work is pivotal to a thriving and whole person. Self care leads to self balance which leads to self healing but most don’t know where to begin, that is why their is a dire need and uprising of many life coaches, nutritional counselors, yoga instructors, alternative healers and energy workers. These ” New age ” healers are rising to the calling of the multifaceted being that has suffered the neglect of true care for far too long.
