How To Begin A Holistic Journey For Healing
When people first begin the healing journey they are full of questions about which supplements, food and therapies they ‘should’ take, as these seem to stand out as the most important aspects to healing. It’s true that in order to heal you must give your body the nutrients it needs to cleanse and repair and you definitely won’t experience healing by doing the same things that caused illness to manifest in the first place. Sometimes though healing is more about putting less in and taking more out and this is what cleansing can do; remove congestion and jump-start your healing process.

How To Begin Physical Cleansing
Simple one day cleanses with fresh water and lemon or raw vegetable juices, for example, can play a critical role in removing physical congestion.

There is a very simple cleanse which will help you to loosen and remove congestion from your physical body. This cleanse uses Burdock root, which is very safe and is eaten as a food in many countries around the world. It’s virtues lie in its ability to stimulate liver function, to improve digestion and increase the natural rate of detoxification, pulling impurities out of the lymph and blood, drawing them into the eliminatory organs. This is the reason it is so helpful in removing congestion and purifying your blood and lymph fluids.

Burdock has been used as a blood cleanser for centuries, is included in several well-known anti-cancer herbal formulas and has been used to help clear acne and blood infections.

During this cleanse you may feel a gentle pulling sensation under your right rib cage as your liver is stimulated, digestion increases and congestion begins to be drawn out.

Simple Burdock Root Tea Cleanse
For this beginning one-day cleanse you will need the following ingredients listed below. Be sure to follow directions carefully and drink the simple cleansing smoothie throughout the entire day.

Ingredients:

  • Large bag of organic leafy greens
  • 1/2 cup of hemp seeds
  • 1/4 cup of Burdock root (substitute Dandelion root)
  • Your favorite organic frozen berries

Directions:

  1. Put the Burdock root in a small saucepan with three cups of fresh water and simmer gently for five or ten minutes.
  2. Take off the heat and let cool completely.
  3. Strain the Burdock root tea.
  4. Into a blender add Burdock tea, two or three large handfuls of organic leafy greens, half a cup of raw hemp seeds (or other raw nut or seed of your choice) and two cups of fresh or frozen organic berries (substitute organic apples or pears).
  5. Add water to the fill line and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Add more water if needed.
  6. Pour your cleansing smoothie into a large pitcher and refrigerate.
  7. Drink the smoothie for the entire day, alternating with fresh water and herbal teas.

You might like a blend of calming herbs that also have chemicals with properties that act against cancer. Try a simple blend of Chamomile, Oat Grass and Pau D’Arco.

Herbs can have powerful effects, which are mostly very helpful, however always be sure the herbs you are taking do not conflict with any medications or pre-existing conditions. Consult with a qualified practitioner first, if necessary.

Rest, relax and be at peace knowing that healing is taking place. Use this cleanse anytime to break a pattern of poor eating, to jumpstart your healing process and to add oomph to your healing protocol.

How To Begin Emotional Cleansing
As the healing process proceeds and physical congestion begins to flow out of your body, long held emotional wounds can rise to the surface.

To really pry up and remove emotional knots that have manifested in your physical body, takes forgiving yourself and others for past hurts.

It may take visiting a ‘knot’ many times, each time recognizing what caused you or another person to behave as you did, before you can release and move past any emotion tied up in the knot.

One simple way to interfere with and release harmful emotions is to practice EFT or emotional freedom technique. This quick technique using tapping your fingers on key points on your body to interfere with the pain caused by held emotions. I have found the simplest and most effective way for myself is to tap all four fingers of each hand on the top, sides of my head, while repeating a series of rational thoughts related to the emotion. The thoughts gradually bring me to an understanding of why we acted and reacted as we did. Tapping is repeated every time the same thought and emotion rise. Each time releasing more and more of the emotional baggage tied to the thought, until it is released and no longer hounds you and controls your wellbeing.

It may take several times of the thought and emotion recurring and you tapping to release it, before it is permanently gone. Quite remarkably this is as extremely simple as it is effective.

There are many organizations, instructors and natural health practitioners who can teach you which areas on your body to tap and give you practical examples of how to release negative, long-held emotions. A search on videos sites like YouTube will give large search results for how-to videos for ‘emotional freedom technique’.

When you no longer feel emotional pain or are haunted when thinking about a past hurt, you will know that the emotional release will now allow healing to continue.­­­­

Healing takes time and patience. It requires that you allow yourself to be guided by your own intuition. It asks that you honor yourself by listening and responding to your symptoms, feelings and needs, that you enjoy the best nutrition possible and that you treat yourself with kindness and love.

Wild Black Raspberry Sorbet For A Cancer Diet

Sorbet is simple to make, delicious, and super nutritious. If you are lucky enough to have black raspberries at hand, this sorbet is orgasmic. Pressing the berries and straining the seeds before makes the sorbet creamier, but left in, the seeds add valuable fiber to the sorbet.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups wild black raspberries
  • Raw honey or Stevia to taste
  • 4 tablespoons Hemp or Flax seed oil or 1/2 avocado

Directions:

Prepare fresh fruit for freezing, spread over a cookie sheet and freeze until firm. Drop frozen fruit into a blender with oil and honey. Add just enough water to blend thoroughly. Freeze the sorbet in a container, or in popsicle molds.

The berries are a nutritive tonic, used for strengthening the blood, to reduce fevers and generally stop bleeding. Raspberry leaves have relaxing effects on the uterus so are used in pregnancy to prevent miscarriage and facilitate delivery by strengthening the uterus.

Collect the leaves and berries for refreshing raspberry tea in the winter. Dry the leaves by hanging, dry the berries in a dehydrator. Crumble the leaves and mix with the dried berries. Store in glass jar. Use 1 to 1/2 teaspoons for a cup of tea.

Raspberries can easily be planted near your home. Just collect a few berries, dry them in the sun, and bury them where you want them to grow. Raspberries love to spread, so if your garden can handle them, all the better – that just means more berries!

Inspired by the Raw Family’s recipe for Gorilla Burgers, in their phenomenal uncookbook, Fresh, these burgers will both surprise and nourish you with deliciousness and vibrant health! Great for a little power-up lunch or quick dinner, you’ll soak up their energy and feel great for the rest of the day.

Add all your favourite condiments like crunchy raw slices of onion, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, alfalfa or red clover sprouts, hot peppers, dijon mustard, relish or whatever topping you can rustle up. To make them even more delish and healthy (maybe we should leave out messy) serve them inside a collard, swiss chard, lettuce or spinach leaf. The burger above has Dijon mustard and raw ketchup, also from Fresh.

Smoked Paprika gives these tasty burgers a slight barbecued flavour. If this is your first foray into a raw meal, you’ll love these quick little apps. You might want to double the recipe for company, because I promise you’ll want more than one! Ingredients

3 medium or 2 large carrots chopped in blender to a small coarse chop

3 cloves garlic, chopped fine

1/2 cup ground flax seeds

2 small or 1 large onion, chopped small

1 teaspoon smoked Paprika

1 teaspoon unrefined sea salt

1/2 cup pecans or walnuts chopped very small, or blended to a small coarse chop

1/4 cup sunflower seeds, blended to a small coarse chop

Mix ingredients together in a bowl. Form into small round patties and refrigerate. When ready to serve your appetizers, place each ‘burger’ on a large green leaf and garnish. Place another leaf on top if needed, or roll up and eat.

How To Make Homemade Hemp MilkHow To Make Raw Hemp Milk

Nut and seeds milks are very simple to make and take all of 30 seconds. Blend a handful of raw hemp seeds and two cups of fresh clean water until smooth and creamy, about one minute.

Ingredients:

  • Handful of Hemp Seeds
  • 2 Cups Alkaline Water

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients to blender
  2. Blend until smooth and creamy
  3. If you don’t like the fiber in your nut milk (it’s kind of chalky) just filter the milk through cheesecloth or a nut milk bag, which you can purchase at a health food store.

It is best to drink it hemp milk with its full of fibre, minerals and protein. You can also pour the milk off the top from the blender and place it in a jar. Use the remaining fibre in a smoothie by adding more water, a banana (or other fresh or frozen fruit like mango, pineapple, apple, pear, or any type of berry), a large handful of fresh leafy greens and a knob of fresh ginger root.

Keep your nut milk refrigerated. It will only last one or two days in the fridge, so use it up.

Use fresh, raw nut or seed milk in a glass by itself, in a smoothie to keep you from getting hungry longer, in cream soups, or in any recipe that calls for milk.

What kind of nuts or seeds can you use?

All kinds!

Macadamia nuts are great for nut milks because they make the smoothest, creamiest milk, but they are also the most expensive and hard to find.

Another favourite is creamy raw cashew milk, or almond milk made from slivered almonds, so you don’t have to soak the acidy skins off.

One of the healthiest milks is from hemp seeds, which have a balanced ratio of omega fats. Others seeds work well too, sunflower, pumpkin, even sesame seeds can be made into milk.

The only criteria are that they are raw, and if they have skins, like whole almonds and walnuts, that they are soaked for three or four hours first. Soaking removes hard-to-digest enzyme inhibitors that coat most nuts and seeds, and makes your nut milk much more palatable without bitter skins.

Raw Milk Variation

Cocoa: Warm it with a spoonful each of organic fair trade cocoa and unpasteurized honey.

What? Healthy? Yes, everything can be healtherized! Eggnog is one of the simplest recipes to turn raw. Why buy fattening, artery clogging, thick, sweet, cooked eggnog from the store, if they have it in stock, when you can make it yourself anytime at home in 30 seconds?

Next time you are out shopping, pick up vanilla beans (or pure vanilla extract), and a nutmeg nut. Hopefully you will have dates and raw, slivered almonds or cashews on hand (from the all that raw nut milk you have been making lately). If this slipped by you, what I meant to say was, seed and nut milks are delicious, nutritious, filling, slimming, and generally knock out, health enhancing!   • 4 Medjool dates (or 6 normal dates but the sweetness of Medjool is better!)
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 2 fresh raw eggs (optional)

Directions:
Throw the ingredients into the jar of your blender. Turn it to high and blend until the nog is smooth and creamy, about 30 seconds in a Vitamix, one to three minutes in a regular blender depending on its strength. Pour through a fine sieve into a tall glass with ice. Add a little rum or brandy for extra holiday cheer, and grate fresh nutmeg over the top.

  • 1 cup raw agave nectar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 ground, raw oat groats or steel cut oats
  • 1 cup ground or whole raw, unsweetened coconut for rolling the balls in.

Directions:

  1. Grind the nuts into meal using a powerful blender or food processor. If you have a Vitamix, use the dry blending jar for this.
  2. Mix the nuts thoroughly with cocoa powder, add agave nectar, vanilla and rum. When thoroughly blended together, sprinkle in the ground oats and work them in, giving them time to soak up the liquid and harden the mixture for rolling.
  3. Make balls with your hands and roll them in coconut or cocoa.
  4. Place in a container with a tight lid, in the refrigerator, until about 30 minutes before serving. If you are keeping them any longer than two days, pop them in the freezer to keep them fresh.

Your Healing Plan can be a crucial tool, helping you move forward to optimum health.

Follow the steps below and use the template download to create your own individualized Healing Plan.

Step 1    Put together your holistic support team

Your Integrative Physician or Naturopathic Doctor can order tests for mineral deficiencies or excesses of certain nutrients. Magnesium levels are often low in people with cancer and Calcium levels are often high. Are yours?

Your physician can order diagnostic tests so you know exactly what you are dealing with. What type of cancer, where is it exactly? It’s important to know details however don’t get caught up in owning your cancer or tumor by calling it, ‘my tumor’. Instead, recognize this as a message from your body that you have not been treating yourself as well as you could be. Is this true for you?

SHe can refer you to a specialist who can order tests for glandular function and other specific tests related to your condition. SHe can also order tests for heavy metal toxicity. Many cancer patients have heavy metal toxicity from mercury amalgam dental fillings. Is this you?

Choose a physician who is open minded, supportive and available to you.

Focus on removing the causes of your disease such as toxicity, mineral deficiencies and so on, rather than on the disease itself.

A Holistic or Biological Dentist can help remove toxic mercury fillings and infected root canals.

Most regular dentists (not all) do not accept the theory that mercury is harmful. This is absolutely not true. Mercury is the second or third (depending on who you talk to) most toxic element to human life.

Silver fillings are made up of Mercury, Silver, Tin, Copper and other compounds. Independent tests have shown that Mercury Amalgam dental fillings are dangerous to our health and leak out Mercury on a regular basis. Mercury can have extreme negative effects by interfering with your nervous system, breaking down the structure of neurons and suppressing liver function by interfering with biochemical processes in your liver. This practitioner will be trained in using rubber dams and methods of safely removing mercury amalgam fillings.

Your Holistic Nutritionist can help you formulate a series of cleanses that will help to detoxify your organs, tissues and body systems. SHe will also help you develop a natural nutrition plan that wholly supports your body’s functions while rebuilding and healing damage caused to cells and organs.

SHe will help you decide what supplements are beneficial and what supplements are not. Specifically, Registered Holistic Nutritionists focus on improving nutrient uptake with raw whole natural foods and supplements made from raw whole natural foods and herbs. They recognize that not all supplements are helpful and some may actually be contributing to illness and disease.

This practitioner will be trained in the emotional and spiritual connection to disease and will help provide steps and resources to remove negative blocks that may be preventing you from healing completely.

Your Master Herbalist may be in private practice or may own a health food store or herbal shop. SHe can support your healing journey with specific herbs or combinations of herbs that help to detoxify and heal your body.

Many herbs have extremely powerful properties that can help to open your detox pathways and get things moving through your eliminatory organs, chelate heavy metals, provide valuable nutrients, kill pathogens, viruses, bacteria and fungi and generally improve the state of your health.

Most herbs are medicinal in small quantities and harmful in large quantities or in certain situations or conditions so its important to have a credible source of information.

Your Support Group will provide a safe place where you can voice your fears, share valuable information about healing and focus on moving forward.

In some cases, specific to online groups, people can be negative and force their opinion about new ideas and natural healing therapies. If you run across someone like this notify the Group Admin and ask that they be spoken to or removed from the group. In one case, a woman who chose to heal herself naturally was completely deflated when a woman who claimed to be a physician told her, “Well unfortunately you are the type of person who does need chemotherapy to really get rid of the cancer.”

Thankfully Nuro wasn’t influenced by this woman’s opinion and went on to heal herself completely of non-Hodgkins sub-cutaneous Lymphoma. You may also find a local support group that meets weekly or monthly in your church or community center.  If you can’t find a support group that is positive and focuses on healing, start your own.

Your Yoga Practice will provide a way to de-stress and detoxify with movement. Yoga is a most healing practice and whether you choose to join a local or online class, be sure your instructor is well trained and privy to the fact that you are dealing with a serious illness.

Whether you choose to do yoga at a class or not, you may wish to bring your practice home so you can enjoy the benefits more frequently, while at the same time improving immune function by lymphatic stimulation through movement. Your lymphatic system is passive, unlike your cardiovascular system, which uses your heart pump to press fluid through your arteries and veins. The lymph system requires movement for optimum flow of lymph fluid through your lymph system, nodes and spleen, your largest and most important ‘lymph node’.

Your Whole Natural Foods Suppliers may be made up of several suppliers of organic whole foods, such as a local health food store, the health food section of your grocer, local farmers, online suppliers and your own vegetable garden.

It may take some digging to find what you need. Just know that you deserve the absolute best and most nutritious food available, so go out there and find it. Don’t settle for anything less than the best. Read labels, ask questions and only eat foods and use products that provide optimum healing benefits.

This cleanse uses Burdock root, Articum lappa which is very safe and is eaten as a food in many countries around the world. Simple Burdock Root Tea Cleanse

For this beginning one-day cleanse you will need a large bag of organic leafy greens, half a cup of hemp seeds, a quarter cup of Burdock root (substitute Dandelion root) and your favorite organic frozen berries.

Put the Burdock root in a small saucepan with three cups of fresh water and simmer gently for five or ten minutes. Take off the heat and let cool completely. Strain the Burdock root tea.

Into a blender add Burdock tea, two or three large handfuls of organic leafy greens, half a cup of raw hemp seeds (or other raw nut or seed of your choice) and two cups of fresh or frozen organic berries (substitute organic apples or pears). Add water to the fill line and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Add more water if needed. Pour your cleansing smoothie into a large pitcher and refrigerate. Drink the smoothie for the entire day, alternating with fresh water and herbal teas.

You might like a blend of calming herbs that also have chemicals with properties that act against cancer. Try a simple blend of Chamomile, Oat Grass and Pau D’Arco.

Herbs can have powerful effects, which are very helpful, however always be sure the herbs you are taking do not conflict with any medications or pre-existing conditions. Consult with a qualified practitioner first, if necessary.

Emotional Cleansing

As the healing process proceeds and physical congestion begins to flow out of your body, long held emotional wounds can rise to the surface.

To really pry up and remove emotional knots that have manifested in your physical body, takes forgiving yourself and others for past hurts.

It may take visiting a ‘knot’ many times, each time recognizing what caused you or another person to behave as you did, before you can release and move past any emotion tied up in the knot.

One simple way to interfere with and release harmful emotions is to practice EFT or emotional freedom technique. This quick technique using tapping your fingers on key points on your body to interfere with the pain caused by held emotions. I have found the simplest and most effective way for myself is to tap all four fingers of each hand on the top, sides of my head, while repeating a series of rational thoughts related to the emotion. The thoughts gradually bring me to an understanding of why we acted and reacted as we did. Tapping is repeated every time the same thought and emotion rise. Each time releasing more and more of the emotional baggage tied to the thought, until it is released and no longer hounds you and controls your wellbeing.

It may take several times of the thought and emotion recurring and you tapping to release it before it is permanently gone. Quite remarkably this is as extremely simple as it is effective.

There are many organizations, instructors and natural health practitioners who can teach you which areas on your body to tap and give you practical examples of how to release negative, long-held emotions. A search on videos sites like YouTube will give large search results for how-to videos for ‘emotional freedom technique’.

When you no longer feel emotional pain or are haunted when thinking about a past hurt, you will know that the emotional release will now allow healing to continue.­­­­

Healing takes time and patience. It requires that you allow yourself to be guided by your own intuition. It asks that you honor yourself by listening and responding to your symptoms, feelings and needs, that you enjoy the best nutrition possible and that you treat yourself with kindness and love.
