Learn About Ketogenic Diet As A Potential Cancer Treatment

ketogenic-diet-for-cancerHigh-fat ketogenic diet is an interesting area of research and it is now being considered as a potential cancer treatment.

The concept of ketogenic diet that is rich in fats and poor in the carbs is not a new thing. It was developed first in 1920 at the John Hopkins School for the children with epilepsy. It was discovered that those children who were not responding well to anti-seizure drugs become free of seizures after using ketogenic diet strictly.

The term Ketogenic diet is named after ketones that are considered an alternative energy source for the brain when there is ketosis. Ketosis is a state that occurs either by fasting from all foods or by eating a high-fat diet with less amount of carbohydrates resulting in decreased insulin production. Coconut oil is an ideal source of fats to be used in the ketogenic diet. It can develop ketosis more rapidly.

Research done so far have concluded that Ketogenic diet cause the cancer cells to starve. This mechanism gained a lot of popularity in medicine and were being studied to develop such drugs that resemble the effects of ketogenic diet. The reason researchers want to replace this diet with drugs is its restrictive nature and problems in breaking the sugar and processed carbs addiction in people.

Ketogenic diet should be followed as it provides the benefits of fighting cancer, limiting the seizures and Alzheimer’s disease,  controlling diabetes and helping with the weight loss, etc.

The story of a man Joe Mancaruso shows that he fought his stage 4 lung cancer by using ketogenic diet along with exercise and positive living. His doctors suggested that he had six months to live and advised his chemotherapy. He was also a previous survivor of testicular cancer in 1985. He refused the chemotherapy to live his life better during the 6 months. He put himself on a diet rich in fats. Now he is found to be free of cancer.

Super Poopers Appear To Cut Their Risk Of Breast Cancer In Half

Breast Cancer and ConstipationWhy do constipated women appear to be at higher risk for breast cancer? Results suggest a slight increased risk of breast cancer for both decreased frequency of bowel movements and firm stool consistency, whereas women who have three or more bowel movements a day—super poopers—appeared to cut their risk of breast cancer in half. This could be because constipation means a greater contact time between our waste and our intestinal wall, which may increase the formation and absorption of fecal mutagens—substances that cause DNA mutations and cancer—into the circulation, and they could end up in breast tissue.

This concept dates back more than a century where severe constipation, so-called chronic intestinal stasis, was sometimes dealt with surgically. Figuring the colon was an inessential part of the human anatomy, why not cure constipation by just cutting it out? What they noted, though, was that potentially precancerous changes in the breasts of constipated women seemed to disappear after the surgery.

It would take another 70 years, though, before researchers followed up on the clues by those distinguished surgeons who claimed breast pathology cleared when constipation was corrected. So they investigated the relation between potentially precancerous changes in the breast and the frequency of bowl movements in nearly 1500 women. They found four times the risk in women reporting two or fewer bowel movements a week compared to more than once daily, who had the lowest risk.

We know that even the non-lactating breast actively takes up chemical substances from the blood, so maybe substances originating in the colon might enter the bloodstream and reach the breast. We know there are mutagens in feces, so it is not unreasonable to suggest that potentially toxic substances derived from the colon have damaging or even carcinogenic effects upon the lining of the breast. And those toxic substances may be bile acids.

First shown to promote tumors in mice in 1940, subsequent experiments on rats led to the mistaken belief that bile acids just promoted existing cancers but couldn’t actually initiate tumors themselves. However, there is a fundamental difference between the rodent models and human cancer. Rats only live a few years, and so the opportunity for cancer causing mutations may be at least 30 times greater in humans. Now we have at least 15 studies that show that bile acids can damage DNA, strongly suggesting they can initiate new cancers as well.

Bile acids are formed as a way of getting rid of excess cholesterol. Our liver dumps bile acids into the intestine for disposal, assuming our intestines will be packed with fiber to trap it and flush it out of the body, but if we haven’t been eating enough whole plant foods, bile acids can be reabsorbed back into the body, and build up in the breast.

Carcinogenic bile acids are found concentrated in the fluid of breast cysts at up to a hundred times the level found in the bloodstream. By radioactively tagging bile acids they were able to show that intestinal bile acids rapidly gain access to the breast, where they can exert an estrogen-like cancer-promoting effect on breast tumor cells. This would explain why we see 50% higher bile acid levels in the bloodstream of newly diagnosed breast cancer victims. These findings support the concept of a relationship between intestinally derived bile acids and risk of breast cancer. So how can we facilitate the removal of bile acids from our body?

Well we can speed up the so-called oroanal transit time, the speed at which food goes from mouth to toilet, because slowed colonic transit can increase bile acid levels. We can do that be eating lots of fiber. A diet packed with plants greatly increases bile acid losses.

Fiber can bind up and remove toxic elements like lead and mercury, as well as cholesterol and bile acids. But plants can bind bile acids even independent of fiber. Vegan diets bind significantly more bile acid than lacto-ovo or non-vegetarian diets even at the same fiber intake, which could explain why it appears that individuals eating vegetarian might excrete less mutagenic feces in the first place.

Doctor’s Note

I touched on this in my new live presentation From Table to Able: Combating Disabling Diseases with Food that just came out, but what I didn’t get to discuss is the relative bile acid binding abilities of different foods. I’ll cover that in my next video Which Vegetable Binds Bile Best?

What intestinal transit time should we be shooting for? See Food Mass Transit. That may be why Stool Size Matters. We can improve speed and size by Bulking Up on Antioxidants and eating lots of whole plant foods (Prunes vs. Metamucil vs. Vegan Diet).

Fiber may also help women remove excess estrogen from their body. See my video Fiber vs. Breast Cancer. For more on the wonders of fiber, see Dr. Burkitt’s F-Word Diet.

The Role Of Detoxification In A Natural Cancer Treatment

Detoxification defines the removal of harmful toxins that accumulate in the body over a period due to different factors. It includes practices such as dieting, chelation therapy, fasting (consuming only specific fruits or foods while completely avoiding other given types), colon cleansing, and the use of specific food supplements. It is considered that detoxification is an important step to take before undergoing a natural cancer treatment that work.Detoxification and Cancer Treatment

How Does Detoxification Work?

Detoxification therapy is a procedure that aims at creating an unfavorable internal environment against the proliferation of pathogens, which include viruses, bacteria, yeast, fungi, and cancer cells. It is normally dependent on the type of detoxification being applied.

In fasting, the low blood sugar and high oxygen concentration obtained promotes a healthy environment for normal cells. At the same time, such an environment depletes the cancer cells of their favorable environment, which is of a high-glucose/low-oxygen concentration.

There are detoxification mechanisms involving the binding of toxic metallic elements by administered chelating agents or proteins. These are substances that bind and cause metallic toxins (such as mercury, copper, gold, zinc, and silver) to be rendered inactive, so as to curb their destructive or harmful effects.

Advantages of Detoxification with Different Types of Cancer

One study involving laboratory rats reported an inhibitory effect against the development of cancer of the liver.

What is the Effect of Detoxification on Metastasis?

When complemented with other immunotherapy procedures, detoxification procedures have been shown to assist in reversing metastasis. One example is in the treatment of bone metastasis prior to and after active immunotherapy, while applying the use of ultraviolet B-irradiated tumor cells.

Does Detoxification Enhance the Effect of Chemotherapy?

Many detoxification procedures (including clay therapy and others) are beneficial and enhance pre- and post-chemotherapeutic procedures. These detoxification strategies are aimed at preparing both the internal and external body environment of a patient so as to achieve optimal results during and after chemotherapy. It is also used as a pre-step for natural cancer treatment.

They prepare the body to stabilize faster during the recovery period after chemotherapy while one is waiting for the next treatment. Detoxification using a specific type of calcium clay has been reported to make some patients stable enough to complete their long chemotherapy series; many patients withdrew before completion.

Does Detoxification Enhance the Effect of Radiation?

Detoxification procedures have also been shown to enhance the achievement of optimal results in radiotherapy. It should be noted that being subjected to excessive radioactivity is potentially harmful.

Detoxification procedures, including the use of special clay and other adsorbents, exhibits the positive effect of eliminating excess radioactive elements. Studies by Raymond Dextriet have documented a considerable reduction of excess radioactive material in organisms; he used a Geiger counter to demonstrate that dry clay can significantly absorb much of the surrounding radioactive elements.

Can Detoxification Reduce the Side Effects of Chemotherapy and Radiation?

Detoxification and radiation often have adverse effects on patients. Detoxification helps to combat and reduce these side effects. Detoxification fights the following: the fatigue that is unresolved by resting (and that can last for weeks or months), and also pain due to nervous system damage.

In the case of radiation therapy, in which the patient suffers pain all over, and where burns and destruction of healthy tissue are inevitable, detoxification procedures (both topical and oral administrations) help to preserve the healthy tissue and the skin at the radiation site. It also helps to prevent adverse side effects to a significant degree.

If you are following a natural cancer treatment, detoxification can help you prepare your body for the treatment by enhancing the healing potential of your immune system. Shortly put, this preliminary step’s main aim is to remove all harmful substances from your body, preparing it to receive all the “soldiers” it needs to fight the disease.

Does Detoxification Have an Influence on the Immune System?

There are many detoxification formulations studied and known to be anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiviral. These greatly enhance and strengthen the immune systems of patients. In one 1987 Zuin study, a detoxification formulation was found to promote the immune system functionality of patients.

Some formulations have been shown to promote the body’s natural resistance to infections, and to boostthe ability of the body. Both to withstand the invasion of pathogens (harmful microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses), and to recuperate.

Does Detoxification Improve Quality of Life and Survival Rate?

Detoxification greatly enhances wellness, quality of life, survival rate, and longevity of patients. There are insignificant levels of toxicity or side effects associated with approved detoxification procedures. These procedures primarily boost the ability of the body to eliminate toxins and pathogens. With a strong immune system achieved through detoxification, many patients have had improved wellness and a better quality of life.

In a few words…:

Detoxification is the removal of harmful toxins, which accumulate in the body over a period, using the available natural ways of excretion. It involves many varieties of therapies, but all of them aim to achieve that core objective.

Among the key benefits of detoxification is its capacity to boost the immune system’s functionality. Other benefits include

  • the regulation of proper metabolism( the breakdown, uptake, and utilization of food and other biochemical processes)
  • the immune-moderation
  • immune potentiating effects
  • the potentiating or enhancement of chemotherapeutic treatment effects.

Detoxification also leads to the reduction of adverse side effects; enhancement of radiotherapy treatment; inhibition of metastases or spread of cancer and other malignancies; survival of convalescent patients; and finally, improvement of affected persons.

Takeaway notes:

Effects of detoxification

  • Boosting the immune system
  • Elimination of pathogenic substances
  • Enhancement of healing and recovery
  • Stabilizes persons undergoing radio-chemotherapy

Detoxification and chemotherapy

  • Prepares a patient’s body for chemotherapy
  • Takes care of the body during and after the sessions
  • Enhances Mitomycin and 5-Fluorouracil

Detoxification and radiation

  • Eliminates radioactive elements
  • Preserves skin and tissue

Cancer types where detoxification has been proved effective

  • Liver cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Skin cancer

How To Begin A Holistic Journey Through Cancer With Emotional And Physical Cleansing

Holistic Journey For CancerBy Lisa Robbins, BScHN, RHN, CTT & Author of The Cancer Journal Heal Yourself! .

How To Begin A Holistic Journey For Healing
When people first begin the healing journey they are full of questions about which supplements, food and therapies they ‘should’ take, as these seem to stand out as the most important aspects to healing. It’s true that in order to heal you must give your body the nutrients it needs to cleanse and repair and you definitely won’t experience healing by doing the same things that caused illness to manifest in the first place. Sometimes though healing is more about putting less in and taking more out and this is what cleansing can do; remove congestion and jump-start your healing process.

How To Begin Physical Cleansing
Simple one day cleanses with fresh water and lemon or raw vegetable juices, for example, can play a critical role in removing physical congestion.

There is a very simple cleanse which will help you to loosen and remove congestion from your physical body. This cleanse uses Burdock root, which is very safe and is eaten as a food in many countries around the world. It’s virtues lie in its ability to stimulate liver function, to improve digestion and increase the natural rate of detoxification, pulling impurities out of the lymph and blood, drawing them into the eliminatory organs. This is the reason it is so helpful in removing congestion and purifying your blood and lymph fluids.

Burdock has been used as a blood cleanser for centuries, is included in several well-known anti-cancer herbal formulas and has been used to help clear acne and blood infections.

During this cleanse you may feel a gentle pulling sensation under your right rib cage as your liver is stimulated, digestion increases and congestion begins to be drawn out.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Simple Burdock Root Tea Cleanse
For this beginning one-day cleanse you will need the following ingredients listed below. Be sure to follow directions carefully and drink the simple cleansing smoothie throughout the entire day.

Ingredients:

  • Large bag of organic leafy greens
  • 1/2 cup of hemp seeds
  • 1/4 cup of Burdock root (substitute Dandelion root)
  • Your favorite organic frozen berries

Directions:

  1. Put the Burdock root in a small saucepan with three cups of fresh water and simmer gently for five or ten minutes.
  2. Take off the heat and let cool completely.
  3. Strain the Burdock root tea.
  4. Into a blender add Burdock tea, two or three large handfuls of organic leafy greens, half a cup of raw hemp seeds (or other raw nut or seed of your choice) and two cups of fresh or frozen organic berries (substitute organic apples or pears).
  5. Add water to the fill line and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Add more water if needed.
  6. Pour your cleansing smoothie into a large pitcher and refrigerate.
  7. Drink the smoothie for the entire day, alternating with fresh water and herbal teas.

You might like a blend of calming herbs that also have chemicals with properties that act against cancer. Try a simple blend of Chamomile, Oat Grass and Pau D’Arco.

Herbs can have powerful effects, which are mostly very helpful, however always be sure the herbs you are taking do not conflict with any medications or pre-existing conditions. Consult with a qualified practitioner first, if necessary.

Rest, relax and be at peace knowing that healing is taking place. Use this cleanse anytime to break a pattern of poor eating, to jumpstart your healing process and to add oomph to your healing protocol.

How To Begin Emotional Cleansing
As the healing process proceeds and physical congestion begins to flow out of your body, long held emotional wounds can rise to the surface.

To really pry up and remove emotional knots that have manifested in your physical body, takes forgiving yourself and others for past hurts.

It may take visiting a ‘knot’ many times, each time recognizing what caused you or another person to behave as you did, before you can release and move past any emotion tied up in the knot.

One simple way to interfere with and release harmful emotions is to practice EFT or emotional freedom technique. This quick technique using tapping your fingers on key points on your body to interfere with the pain caused by held emotions. I have found the simplest and most effective way for myself is to tap all four fingers of each hand on the top, sides of my head, while repeating a series of rational thoughts related to the emotion. The thoughts gradually bring me to an understanding of why we acted and reacted as we did. Tapping is repeated every time the same thought and emotion rise. Each time releasing more and more of the emotional baggage tied to the thought, until it is released and no longer hounds you and controls your wellbeing.

It may take several times of the thought and emotion recurring and you tapping to release it, before it is permanently gone. Quite remarkably this is as extremely simple as it is effective.

There are many organizations, instructors and natural health practitioners who can teach you which areas on your body to tap and give you practical examples of how to release negative, long-held emotions. A search on videos sites like YouTube will give large search results for how-to videos for ‘emotional freedom technique’.

When you no longer feel emotional pain or are haunted when thinking about a past hurt, you will know that the emotional release will now allow healing to continue.

Healing takes time and patience. It requires that you allow yourself to be guided by your own intuition. It asks that you honor yourself by listening and responding to your symptoms, feelings and needs, that you enjoy the best nutrition possible and that you treat yourself with kindness and love.

Dry skin brushing can strengthen immunity, spark detoxification and reverse the hands of time – NaturalNews.com

Dry skin brushing can strengthen immunity, spark detoxification and reverse the hands of time - NaturalNews.com

Dry skin brushing can strengthen immunity, spark detoxification and reverse the hands of time via NaturalNews.com.

via NaturalNews.com.

Long used in Ayurveda, dry skin brushing is a powerful — yet exceptionally economical — healing therapy. Upon first glance, the practice may not seem like much. We may question how a quick session of brushing the skin can provide such impressive results as heightened immunity, reduction of cellulite and overall detoxification. As unlikely as it may seen, dry skin brushing delivers all of the above and more.

With this straightforward technique, you are on your way to glowing health, smooth skin and a happy lymphatic system — this last perk is especially important to keep immunity buzzing and your constitution robust. But how does it work?

When we brush the skin in an upward motion, not only are we removing surface toxins and dead skin cells, but we’re also stimulating the movement of lymphatic fluids — a secondary circulatory system that assists immunity by transporting white blood cells and removing waste. Since the lymph system doesn’t have a mechanism like the heart to keep fluid flowing, it needs to be manually encouraged through dry brushing, exercise, rebounding or yoga.

Skin brushing is also known for firming cellulite, thereby smoothing lumpy problem areas of the skin. However, don’t be fooled. The taming of cellulite isn’t simply a cosmetic concern, it’s also linked with a lower toxic load. Since cellulite is comprised of fatty toxic buildup, when we brush the skin, we are essentially helping dissolve these formations so they can be removed by the eliminatory channels of the body.

Beyond detoxification and promoting youthful skin, the practice also increases blood flow, improves muscle tone and tightens up sagging bits. On top of that, the production of hydrating oils is stimulated, further enhancing a healthy dermal surface. Dry skin brushing aids digestion as well as kidney function too.

Brush well and often

If you’re sold on the idea of dry brushing, here are a few tips to get you started.

  • Frequency — You should try to brush your skin at least once per day, with each session lasting between 2 and 20 minutes. Before your morning shower is ideal. Otherwise, a brushing session at night might prove to be too stimulating and interfere with sound sleep.
  • Brush type –– Look for a natural, stiff-bristled brush with a long, attachable handle for reaching tricky areas like the back. Avoid synthetic bristles, as they tend to be overly harsh and can damage the skin.
  • Method — Beginning with the feet, and moving up the legs, brush toward the heart. You want to use long, sweeping motions — not scrubbing or back and forth movements. And don’t brush so vigorously that the skin is red or irritated. You’re aiming for stimulation, not trauma. For the stomach area, brush counterclockwise. Next, focus on your backside with upward strokes. End the session with the hands, arms and chest. Avoid delicate areas like the face. Remember, both the skin and brush need to remain dry for the entire session. For maximum benefit, make sure to shower afterwards to remove dead skin cells and surface toxins.

The Healing Effects of Pink Salt

Healing With Pink SaltBy: Diana Ross, E-RYT 500 Co-Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga.

Instinctively we are drawn to water, especially the big oceans. We like returning to this specific vibration of the ocean. The primordial ocean from whence we came and have a connection to. Vacationing or even walking on the beach has renewal, reenergizing capabilities. We feel recharged after spending time at the beach.

More and more people are seeking out holistic methods, natural foods and medicines and utilizing natural salts seem to be part of this healing method. There are so many positive healing qualities of natural crystal salt. We find it in skin care, inhalers, cleansing treatments for illnesses, bath salts for detoxification and respiratory ailments.

Salt Cave TherapyAllopathic medicine has endorsed using salts for a very long time. One of the oldest and largest salt works in Europe occupies the royal salt mines of Wieliczka, Poland. It is here where a hospital was dug out of a salt mountain some 740 feet below the ground surface. This hospital has a success rate of 90%for those suffering from asthma, lung disease and allergies. Now there are many underground therapeutic spas located in Germany.

Natural salt has a neutralizing force. It can neutralize radioactive radiation just to give you an idea of it’s power. It isn’t just this power in purity of air but also it’s healing effects or resonant vibrations that can activate our self healing and self regulating power. When our body is sick and lacking it’s natural frequency, for example from the depletion from chemo or radiation therapy, salt can bring us back into more of a balanced and recharged state. Thereby replenishing the body with it’s energy deficit. In principle, all symptoms of illness can be therapeutically neutralizing with salt.

You can drink salt and water (Sole’) which will stimulate your metabolism and digestion. Electrolytes are created which improves the body’s conductivity and stimulates circulation. In fact, Sole’ lowers blood pressure if it is high, and raises it if blood pressure is low. The primary attribute of Sole’ is to restore balance. I know that doctors tell us to stay away from salt but which salt are they referring to? For common over processed table salt this is a true statement but not for slat having in tact holistic properties. I speak about real, whole, pure crystal salt.

Sole’ is an exceptional harmonizer in balancing acid/alkaline pH in the body. It will flush out heavy metals such as mercury, lead, arsenic and amalgam, even calcification. Crystal salt breaks down molecule compounds. This is when salt and water is taken internally.

Now let’s look at crystal salt and it’s cleansing ability externally, as in a therapeutic Sole’ bath. One would think salt bath as a bath that takes moisture out of the body but instead a Sole’ bath maintains a natural, protective layer of the skin and the skin does not dry out. Sole’ baths are great to restore the skin. A Sole’ bath is so effective that it will allow toxins to be extracted through the skin (the largest organ of the body) by way of osmosis. Meanwhile when toxins are removed, minerals are absorbed through the skin. Taking a Sole’ bath is like taking an energy bath. Bioenergetic deficits are rebalanced. Our body’s electric current is charged up leaving us feeling light and strong. A Sole’ bath activates the natural regulatory mechanism of the body and it’s self healing powers.

All this great therapeutic qualities come when taking a Sole’ bath but one big item not mentioned until now is it’s relaxing effects on the mind, body and spirit. Bathing quietly allows for a deep state of relaxation which helps to regulate our breath and our blood circulation. This helps with having an extra ordinary healing effects through the absence of gravity. Mind, body and spirit experience their fullest integration.

Dry Brush & Pink Salt Bath For Breast Cancer Lymphedema

By Diana Ross, E-RYT 500 Founder of Breast Cancer Yoga.

Relaxation and detoxification of your body with a therapeutic bath is a complementary therapy that anyone can perform in the comfort of their own home. If in a cancer related weakened state please have friend or family member close by during and after a therapeutic Pink Salt bath and dry brush body massage.

A detox bath is thought to assist your body in eliminating toxins as well as absorbing the minerals and nutrients that are in the water. Most of all, it’ll leave you feeling refreshed and awakened. Dry skin brushing increases circulation to skin, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes, which greatly aids the lymphatic drainage of the entire body. When the body rids itself of toxins, it is able to run more efficiently in all areas.

Relax & Detox Bath Instructions

  1. Schedule time for yourself
  2. Fill tub with hot water
  3. Add 4-6 ounces of “Pink Salt” aka Himalayan Salt
  4. Mix bath water gently with hand
  5. Enter bath and soak for at least 20 minute however 40 is recommended
  6. Be sure to drink plenty of water after a “Pink Salt” bath to rehydrate the healthy relaxed cells

After Bath Care
Be sure to stand up with care, baths can make person feel dizzy or lightheaded. Have a towel ready and use a dry brush to brush/rub the body down and help stimulate the lymphatic system.

Dry brushing stimulates the skin and circulates lymph fluid which is vital for overall health. The skin is the largest organ in the body and is responsible for a quarter of the body’s detoxification. The ability of the skin to excrete toxins is of paramount importance. Dry skin brushing helps to shed dead skin cells, which improves skin texture and cell renewal.

How To Use A Dry Brush For Breast Cancer & Lymphedema

  1. Dry Brush your entire body before you shower, preferably in the morning or before bed. This helps loosen and remove dead skin and uric acid crystals.
  2. Start at the soles of your feet doing circular movements, then brush upwards on your legs toward your heart. Use long, even strokes.
  3. Brush all the way up your legs, scooping forward from behind your hips to your tummy. If you have cellulite on your hips and thighs, concentrate their a little longer.
  4. Then begin circular movements over your tummy. Start with up on right and down on left, simulating the natural movement of the bowels.
  5. Be kind in the thin sensitive skin areas of inner arm, arm pits or tops of hands and not directly on breasts. Avoid brushing anywhere the skin is broken or where you have a rash, infection, cut or wound.
  6. When ready, start the shower with warm water and end briefly with cold. Let the cold water start at your legs then the heart is last. This hot/cold therapy further stimulates the lymphatic system which improves overall circulation.
  7. Dry off vigorously and massage pure plant oils into your skin or spray on Simply Lavender. You may want your skin to breathe for a while too. Enjoy this process of good health and detoxification.

Dry skin brushing increases circulation to skin, encouraging your body’s discharge of metabolic wastes, which greatly aids the lymphatic drainage of the entire body. When the body rids itself of toxins, it is able to run more efficiently in all areas. Dry skin brushing stimulates the lymph canals to drain toxic mucoid matter into the colon, thereby purifying the entire system. This enables the lymph to perform its house-cleaning duties by keeping the blood and other vital tissues detoxified.

Gentle Spring Detox Herbs

Nettles

Nettles

By Patricia Kyritsi Howell, RH (AHG) & Author of Medicinal Plants of the Southern Appalachians.

After a harsh winter, signs of spring are finally appearing as the earth turns green again and life seems to burst with new possibilities. Herbs known as spring tonics are used now to cleanse the body and help us move from the contraction of winter into the expansion and growth of spring. Many of the best spring tonics just happen to also be the first wild greens, or weeds, that pop up everywhere. You may have already noticed violet, dandelion, chickweed, yellow dock, nettles and others that herald the arrival of spring.

What these plants have in common is that they gently simulate all of the organs of detoxification: the lymph glands; liver; kidneys; and skin. Think of spring tonics as seasonal house cleaners that scour away toxins and waste from every nook and cranny in the body, making everything fresh and new.

Some people embark on a juice fast in the spring as a way to eliminate toxins, but since fasting isn’t appropriate for everyone, tonic herbs are a good alternative. If you’ve been ill recently, have been or are taking medications, or are not able to devote the time needed each day to prepare special foods, you can still reap significant benefits this spring using herbal spring tonics.

Spring tonics should be made into a tea, or infusion daily. To prepare a therapeutic infusion, steep one ounce (by weight) of dried herb, or 2 ounces of fresh herb (gently crushed with a wooden spoon), in 32 ounces (by volume) of freshly boiled water for at least an hour, covered. Strain out the herb and discard. Try to drink 1 quart each day. A one-quart canning jar is perfect for preparing tonic infusions.

Here are a two common spring tonics for you to consider. If you can gather them from an unpolluted place, the wild herbs are the best, but both of the herbs described here are also readily available from herb shops and on-line herb suppliers.

Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioca) strengthens and supports the entire body. It gently detoxifies all tissues. Considered a blood-cooling herb, it is a specific for anyone with eczema, acne, boils or other hot, eruptive skin conditions. Stinging nettle is a delicious wild green (when cooked) that is rich in chlorophyll, vitamin C, and other vitamins. Use the leaves in place of spinach.

Dandelion Root (Taraxacum officinale) is a general tonic that relieves liver congestion. Symptoms associated with liver congestion include migraine headaches, pre-menstrual syndrome, breast tenderness, breast cysts, and chronic constipation. The leaves are also a wonderful spring tonic when eaten raw in salads.

A Holistic Journey Through Cancer Begins With Emotional And Physical Cleansing

Lemon Water Cleanse For Breast Cancer
By Lisa Robbins Author of the “Cancer Journal”

When people first come to healing they are full of questions about which supplements, food and therapies they ‘should’ take, as these seem to stand out as the most important aspects to healing. It’s true that in order to heal you must give your body the nutrients it needs to cleanse and repair and you definitely won’t experience healing by doing the same things that caused illness to manifest in the first place. Sometimes though healing is more about putting less in and taking more out and this is what cleansing can do; remove congestion and jumpstart your healing process.

Lemon

Physical Cleansing

Simple one day cleanses with fresh water and lemon or raw vegetable juices, for example, can play a critical role in removing physical congestion.

There is a very simple cleanse which will help you to loosen and remove congestion from your physical body. This cleanse uses Burdock root, Articum lappa which is very safe and is eaten as a food in many countries around the world. Its virtues lie in its ability to stimulate liver function, to improve digestion and increase the natural rate of detoxification, pulling impurities out of the lymph and blood, drawing them into the eliminatory organs. This is the reason it is so helpful in removing congestion and purifying your blood and lymph fluids.

Burdock has been used as a blood cleanser for centuries, and is included in several well-known anti-cancer herbal formulas. It also has been used to help clear acne and blood infections.

During this cleanse you may feel a gentle pulling sensation under your right rib cage as your liver is stimulated, digestion increases and congestion begins to be drawn out.

Simple Burdock Root Tea Cleanse

For this beginning one-day cleanse you will need a large bag of organic leafy greens, half a cup of hemp seeds, a quarter cup of Burdock root (substitute Dandelion root) and your favorite organic frozen berries.

Put the Burdock root in a small saucepan with three cups of fresh water and simmer gently for five or ten minutes. Take off the heat and let cool completely. Strain the Burdock root tea.

Into a blender add Burdock tea, two or three large handfuls of organic leafy greens, half a cup of raw hemp seeds (or other raw nut or seed of your choice) and two cups of fresh or frozen organic berries (substitute organic apples or pears). Add water to the fill line and blend on high until smooth and creamy. Add more water if needed. Pour your cleansing smoothie into a large pitcher and refrigerate. Drink the smoothie for the entire day, alternating with fresh water and herbal teas.

You might like a blend of calming herbs that also have chemicals with properties that act against cancer. Try a simple blend of Chamomile, Oat Grass and Pau D’Arco.

Herbs can have powerful effects, which are very helpful, however always be sure the herbs you are taking do not conflict with any medications or pre-existing conditions. Consult with a qualified practitioner first, if necessary.

Rest, relax and be at peace knowing that healing is taking place. Use this cleanse anytime to break a pattern of poor eating, to jumpstart your healing process and to add oomph to your healing protocol.

Emotional Cleansing

It may take several times of the thought and emotion recurring and you tapping to release it before it is permanently gone.
