Luckily, you don’t need to be a farmer (or even live near a farm) in order to reap the benefits of home-grown medicinal mushrooms. If you have a sunny window (or two, or five) and a bit of extra time on your hands, then you’re capable of growing your own organic mushrooms right at home. Read on for our easy, healthy mushroom ideas to cultivate indoors — and how to get them growing!

Making a Bathroom Mushroom House

Bathroom Mushroom Garden For Breast Cancer
If you haven’t given the joy of home-grown organic mushroom cultivation a go yet due to lack of space that is relatively stable in temperature and high humidity, it might be time you had a little rethink. Your bathroom is a mushroom growing space waiting to happen. Whether you’re cultivating shiitake, oyster varieties, enoki or any other saprophytic species, your bathroom can help to create the perfect environment for your mushrooms in their fruiting stage. Given that it’s the room in your house in which many hot showers are taken, it is generally more moist and humid than other rooms in your house. Step By Step Instructions at Milkwood.

Mushroom Farm Kit And The Growing Process

Mushroom Growing Kit For Breast Cancer Gardening
I don’t have a green thumb…how easy are the mushrooms to grow? As easy as 1) opening 2) misting and 3) harvesting… in just 10-15 days! It’s so easy and our main supporters are kids that are growing their own food!

How long can I store the farm before I need to start growing it? The farm will stay fresh in the box for months before you start growing your mushrooms. Make sure you keep your farm in a cool area/room that doesn’t receive any direct sunlight (i.e., closet, bedroom). Once opened you just need oxygen, water, and light to activate your farm!

Where should I grow my farm? All you need is a window sill, perfect for you urban dwellers out there! Ideally, you want to grow your mushrooms indoors with indirect sunlight and a bit of fresh air. Indirect sunlight will help the mushroom caps develop to their full potential. Once you see the tiny pin heads pop out, they’ll double in size each day! Shiitake Mushroom Benefits Breast Cancer

Shiitake Mushroom Benefit Breast CancerShiitake mushrooms are promoted to fight the development and progression of cancer and AIDS by boosting the body’s immune system. These mushrooms are also said to help prevent heart disease by lowering cholesterol levels and to help treat infections such as hepatitis by producing interferon, a group of natural proteins that stops viruses from multiplying. Promoters claim that eating both the cap and stem of the mushroom may be helpful, but they do not say how much must be eaten to have an effect. They say the strength and effects of the mushroom depend on how it is prepared and consumed. Learn More From American Cancer Society.

  1. Amazing post! I love mushrooms and this is not only capable of bolstering immune function and potentially fighting cancer. Aside from being rich in protein, fiber, vitamin C, B vitamins, calcium, and minerals, mushrooms are excellent sources of antioxidants.
