We are so excited to say that results of the largest ever research grant ($4 million) to study the effects of yoga on breast cancer now available. Dr. Lorenzo Cohen, PhD. was awarded the largest ever grant to research the benefits of YOGA as a genuine tool in helping women through the stages of breast cancer. http://www.mdanderson.org/education-and-research/departments-programs-and-labs/programs-centers-institutes/integrative-medicine-program/index.html
Dr. Cohen and I met in a discussion group at the very first IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapists) symposium at the Himalayan Institute a few years back. He was a presenter and spoke of the benefits of yoga for women during breast cancer. Being specific about the autonomic nervous system balancing the hormones of the body, in particular cortisol a stress hormone. Stress as we all know plays a large impact on how we handle life altering circumstances. Now the results are in and we are all excited to find out the yoga postures and breathing techniques play a large role in healing during breast cancer.

What with know will every cell of our being, is now ‘official’. I expect to see more yoga for cancer survivors classes. That is why I am training yoga students online, the demand is going to be great. I also spoke to Dr. Andrew Kennedy, at an international GI conference (I am a colorectal survivor). He asked me to come and speak on yoga’s benefits for cancer patients. Yes!
