Spicy Tofu Recipe

This is my husband’s Sunday evening dish. He was thrilled that I was going to post it to the blog. Me too. What a special dish that promises to deliver and yes, you need to be up for the “spicy.”  There are so many great anti-cancer ingredients that gives this dinner the WOW factor.

Soy is often considered a healthy protein alternative for a plant based diet for breast cancer prevention. In the media the effects of soy on cancer risk reduction has been mixed. However, Cancer.org , BreastCancer.org, and MDAnderson.org all give tofu the thumbs up.

Just knowing it is good for you adds to it’s great taste. The turmeric, garlic, and coconut milk are well known cancer fighting ingredients. Please try to make sure that these ingredients are organic.

Serves 2 -3

1 Carton – 10 oz box silken-firm or extra firm tofu  (nonGMO)
1 Tbs Brown sugar
1 Tbs Tumeric
1 Cup of Coconut Milk
1 Cup Corn Starch
Use vegetable oil to fry tofu
1 or 2 Jalapeno peppers green or red
1 Lime
2 Tbs low salt soy sauce
2 Garlic cloves minced
3 Shallots, thin sliced crosswise
2 Tbs fresh lime juice
Thai Basil and Mint, chopped into pieces


Drain the tofu, then cut into four slabs, then into triangles.
Combine spices, add brown sugar, soy sauce in a bowl,
Heat oil in large frying pan.
Put corn starch in wide low bowl and power each triangle of tofu; shake off and put into hot oil. Fry until golden brown. Should be crispy on the outside.
Place tofu on paper towels. Empty out oil from frying pan. Squeeze 1/2 lime on tofu.
Put garlic, jalapeno, shallots in hot pan and fry up for approximaty 1 minute. Do not burn garlic.
Pour soy sauce, sugar and coconut milk. Warm up ingredients, then turn off heat and squeeze remaining lime.
Stir in basil and mint. Then add tofu.
Serve tofu over the rice.

    I am surprised to see brown sugar in a recipe for cancer fighting patients. You think brown sugar is acceptable?

      This is my husband’s recipe of which he was quite proud. It calls for 1 tablespoon which is minute, so my recommendation would be, not to add it in. I bet you wouldn’t even notice. The tablespoon is also divided by 3/4 people so it shrinks down even more. Sugar is damaging when abused. Typically people use up to a cup of sugar in the form of maple sugar, honey, Steva, and so on but this in insurmountable. So to answer your question – I believe this small amount is acceptable.
