Homemade “Spicy” Black Bean Burger

Homade Black Bean Burger

Healthy recipes for breast cancer prevention include delicious plant based ingredients. We recommend using organic ingredients to help decrease the risk of contracting cancer.

3 tablespoons olive oil
1 (15.25-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained, or use soak raw beans
1 teaspoon grated lime rind
3/4 teaspoon chili powder or 1/2 teaspoon Montreal Spicy Steak Spice
1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano
1/4 teaspoon pink salt
egg substitute (see below)
1 (2-ounce) healthy toasted bun
fresh romaine lettuce, chopped tomatoes, chopped onions and mushrooms


  • Combine:1 tablespoon oil, crushed garlic, and beans in food processor;
  • pulse 8 times or until beans make a thick paste. Scrape bean mixture into bowl.
  • Stir in lime rind, egg substitute, oregano, salt, and chili powder.
  • Divide bean mixture into 4 equal portions (about 1/3 cup mixture per portion) shaping each into a 3-inch patty.
  • Saute’ mushrooms and onions.
  • Heat remaining 2 tablespoons oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add patties to pan; reduce heat to medium, and cook 4 minutes or until bottom edges are browned.
  • Carefully turn patties over; cook 3 minutes or until bottom edges are done.
  • Pull bun together with Veganaise, add mushrooms and onions, chopped lettuce and the delicious bean burger. Oh yes, and dill pickles.
  • Bon Apetite’

Alternative Egg Substitutes

Silken Tofu/ Tofu
( 1/4 cup blended silken tofu = 1 egg )

Process in a blender until completely smooth and creamy, leaving no graininess
or chunks. You will want to attach other wet ingredients to this mixture to
return with it to blend properly.

Flax seeds
(1 tbsp ground Flax seeds +3 tbsp Water =1 egg)

Grind the flax seeds in a coffee grinder, and mix with water. Allow it to rest till it becomes gelatinous, then use.
